''The Killing'' ( da, Forbrydelsen, lit=The Crime) is a Danish police procedural drama television series created by Søren Sveistrup and produced by DR in co-production with ZDF Enterprises. It premiered on the Danish national television channel DR1 on 7 January 2007, and has since been broadcast in several other countries. The series is set in Copenhagen and revolves around Detective Inspector Sarah Lund (Sofie Gråbøl). Each series follows a murder case day-by-day. Each fifty-minute episode covers twenty-four hours of the investigation. The series is noted for its plot twists, season-long storylines, dark tone and for giving equal emphasis to the stories of the murdered victim's family and the effect in political circles alongside the police investigation. It has also been singled out for the photography of its Danish setting, and for the acting ability of its cast. Sofie Gråbøl
Sofie Gråbøl (; born 30 July 1968) is a Danish actress. She has starred in a number of films, with her breakthrough role in the 1986 Danish film '' Early Spring'', directed by Astrid Henning-Jensen, playing the lead role in the film version of Tove Ditlevsen's novel ''Barndommens gade'' when she was 17 years old. On television she has starred in ''Taxa'' and ''Nikolaj og Julie''. Morten Sasse Suurballe (born 8 March 1955) is a Danish actor, best known for playing Detective Chief Inspector Lennart Brix in the three television series '' The Killing'' (Danish: ''Forbrydelsen'', “The Crime”) in which he played alongside Sofie Gråbøl. Career and personal life Suurballe was born in Copenhagen and educated at the Danish National School of Theatre in 1978. Søren Dyrberg Malling (; born 3 February 1964) is a Danish actor. Career Raised in Kjellerup, Malling trained at Skuespillerskolen at Odense Teater in 1992. He is best known for his role as Inspector Jan Meyer in the Danish TV crime thriller ''Forbrydelsen''. Frans Bak
Frans Bak (born 7 February 1958 Copenhagen, Denmark) is a Danish composer, choral conductor, saxophonist, and pianist. He is a graduate of the Royal Danish Academy of Music and has worked as a jazz performer and composer of film music. In 1994, he founded the composer's association Den 3. Vej. He plays saxophone, keyboards, and piano. Bak was a member of the bands Blast, Buztop, Santa Cruz, Det Glatte Lag, and Jazzgruppe 90. He was the leader of a quartet and of a big band that included Bob Berg and Randy Brecker. He recorded with Hans Ulrik on the album ''Fusion''. ''The Killing'' is an American crime drama television series that premiered on April 3, 2011, on AMC (TV channel), AMC, based on the Denmark, Danish television series ''The Killing (Danish TV series), Forbrydelsen'' ('The Crime').
