Flying (UFO Album)
''UFO 2: Flying'' (sometimes called simply ''UFO 2'' or ''Flying''; also subtitled ''Space Rock'') is the second studio album by English hard rock band UFO. It was released in October 1971 on the Beacon label(And in the US on Rare Earth/Motown). It was issued on CD in 1999 on Repertoire Records. The album is distinctive for its title track, which was among the longest tracks recorded in rock music up to that point and easily the longest song the band ever recorded. The track finishes with a backmasked reading from Rudyard Kipling's '' Gunga Din'', "Tho' I've belted you an' flayed you, By the livin' God that made you, You're a better man than I am, Gunga Din!", and a slowed phrase, "Yes we know, it's all been done before before before". The album was reissued on the '' Flying, The Early Years'' compilation, along with all of the band's other work from before guitarist Michael Schenker joined the group. UFO (band)
UFO are an English rock band formed in London in 1968. They became a transitional group between early hard rock and heavy metal and the new wave of British heavy metal. The band's current lineup includes vocalist Phil Mogg, lead guitarist Vinnie Moore, rhythm guitarist and keyboardist Neil Carter, bass guitarist Rob De Luca, and drummer Andy Parker. They have gone through several line-up changes, leaving Mogg as the only constant member, and had two breaks (1983–1984 and again from 1989 to 1991). The band are also notable for featuring former Scorpions guitarist and MSG founder Michael Schenker, who was a member of UFO from 1973 to 1978 and had rejoined the band sporadically between 1993 and 2003, when Moore replaced him. In May 2018, Mogg announced that he would retire from UFO after one last tour as a member of the band in 2019; however, the band plans to resume their farewell tour in 2022. Gunga Din
"Gunga Din" () is an 1890 poem by Rudyard Kipling set in British India. The poem is much remembered for its final line: "You're a better man than I am, Gunga Din". Background The poem is a rhyming narrative from the point of view of a British soldier in India. Its eponymous character is an Indian water-carrier (a '' bhishti'') who, after the narrator is wounded in battle, saves his life, only to be shot and killed. In the final three lines, the soldier regrets the abuse that he dealt to Din and admits that Din is the better man. The poem was published as part of a set of martial poems called the ''Barrack-Room Ballads''. In contrast to Kipling's later poem "The White Man's Burden", "Gunga Din" is named after the Indian and portrays him as a heroic character who is not afraid to face danger on the battlefield as he tends to wounded men.
