Flames In The Dark
''Flames in the Dark'' ( sv, Lågor i dunklet) is a 1942 Swedish drama film directed by Hasse Ekman. Plot summary Rolf Nordmark and Eva Berg both work as teachers at Ringsala boarding school. Rolf has long been in love with Eva, but when the semester begins again in the fall, he learns that she is to leave her job and marry a newly hired teacher at the school, Birger Sjögren. Rolf and Eva continues their friendship, but Birger who is very jealous thinks that it is more than that and becomes more and more angry. A series of mysterious fires begins to take place around the school. Per Sahlén, one of the students, is sure that he has seen the severe Latin teacher Sjögren setting fire to a barn. But can he convince the trusted and psychologically skilled teacher Nordmark of his suspicions in time to stop a disaster? Hasse Ekman
Hasse Ekman (born Hans Gösta Ekman; 10September 191515February 2004) was a Swedish director, actor, writer and producer for film, stage and television. Biography Hasse Ekman is probably Sweden's most successful and critically acclaimed film director from the period after Sjöström and Stiller and prior to Ingmar Bergman, peaking between the mid-1940s and 1950. He was greatly influenced by filmmaker Orson Welles and also by episodic-films. His most successful film as a director is often said to be the 1950 film ''Flicka och hyacinter'' ( Girl with Hyacinths), a crime/mystery drama about a young woman committing suicide by hanging herself in her apartment. Hilda Borgström
Hilda Teresia Borgström (13 October 1871 – 2 January 1953) was a Swedish stage and film actress. Biography Born in 1871 in Stockholm, Borgström made her film debut in 1912. She starred in leading parts in Victor Sjöström's silent films '' Ingeborg Holm'' (aka ''Margaret Day'') (1913) and '' Körkarlen'' (aka ''The Phantom Carriage/The Stroke of Midnight/Thy Soul Shall Bear Witness'') in 1921. Borgström started out to be a dancer and trained at the old Royal Theatre's ballet school in Stockholm 1880–1887. Later she decided to turn to the theatre instead and studied drama. Her professional debut on stage came in 1890 at one of Albert Ranft's theatres. Linnéa Paulina Hillberg, ''née'' Nilsson (26 October 1892 – 3 July 1977) was a Swedish actress. Biography Born in Uddevalla on the Swedish west coast, Linnéa Hillberg made her stage debut in 1913.
