Finley Railway Precinct
Finley railway station is a heritage-listed former railway station and now museum at Narrandera-Tocumwal railway, Finley, Berrigan Shire, New South Wales, Australia. The property was added to the New South Wales State Heritage Register on 2 April 1999. History The former station now hosts the Finley Pioneer Railway Museum with various artefacts. It is operated by the Finley Pioneer Rail Committee, who conduct guided tours of the site. Description The type 16 timber pioneer station building dates from 1898. The 36'x18' sub type 4 corrugated iron skillion roof also dates from 1898. A timber stacking and storage shed and T282 5 tonne 1898 gantry crane also fall within the heritage listing. The concrete platform has been at two levels: originally at ground level, and later at carriage entrance height. Tocumwal Railway Line, New South Wales
The Tocumwal railway line is a closed railway line in New South Wales, Australia. The line branched from the still open Junee – Hay line at Narrandera station and then headed south west to Tocumwal station where there was a break-of-gauge with the Victorian Railways Goulburn Valley line from Shepparton. The line was opened to Jerilderie station in 1884, extended to Berrigan in 1896, Finley in 1898 and Tocumwal in 1914. The Victorian line had reached Tocumwal in July 1908. Two of the stations on the Tocumwal railway line were Widgiewa and Morundah. The last goods train left Tocumwal for Narrandera in 1985, and traffic ceased over the line south of Jerilderie in September 1986 and the entire line was closed in December 1988. The Victorian line to Tocumwal remains open for freight traffic. It is the largest town in the Berrigan Shire local government area. At the 2016 census, Finley had a population of 2,519 people. The New South Wales State Heritage Register, also known as NSW State Heritage Register, is a heritage list of places in the state of New South Wales, Australia, that are protected by New South Wales legislation, generally covered by the Heritage Act 1977 and its 2010 amendments. The register is administered by the Heritage Council of NSW via Heritage NSW, a division of the Government of New South Wales Department of Planning and Environment. The register was created in 1999 and includes items protected by heritage schedules that relate to the State, and to regional and to local environmental plans. Corrugated galvanised iron or steel, colloquially corrugated iron (near universal), wriggly tin (taken from UK military slang), pailing (in Caribbean English), corrugated sheet metal (in North America) and occasionally abbreviated CGI is a building material composed of sheets of hot-dip galvanised mild steel, cold-rolled to produce a linear ridged pattern in them. Yass Town railway station is a heritage-listed former railway station and now museum at Yass Town Tramway, Yass, Yass Valley Shire, New South Wales, Australia. It is also known as the Yass Railway Museum. The property was added to the New South Wales State Heritage Register on 2 April 1999. History The Yass Town branch tramway was formally closed in 1988. The Australian Railway Historical Society (ACT Division) negotiated with the State Rail Authority and the then-Yass Shire regarding the future of the tramway and yard, resulting in the council assuming control and leasing the station to the ARHS.
