Falconair was a Swedish airline existing between 1967 and 1970. It should not be confused with Falcon Air, which between 1986 and 2006 operated three Boeing 737-300QC, based at Malmö/Sturup Airport. History Falconair was based at Malmö Bulltofta Airport in southern Sweden (which was closed in 1972 and replaced by Sturup Airport). The airline took delivery of two used Vickers Viscount 784D from Philippine Airlines in April 1967 and started operations in May 1967. A third Viscount, a series 784D aircraft, was added to the fleet in May 1967, also from Philippine Airlines. In January 1969 a Lockheed L-188C Electra was bought from Eastern Airlines, followed by two more, the last one on 16 September 1969. Falconair ceased operations on 1 September 1970. Malmö Bulltofta Airport
Malmö Bulltofta Airport ( sv, Malmö-Bulltofta flygplats; ) was the main airport for the city of Malmö, Scania, Sweden, from 1923 to 1972. Located in the Malmö city district of Kirseberg, the area has since been converted into a major park and commercial development, and this part of Sweden is now served by Malmö Airport, and Copenhagen Airport, Denmark. Bulltofta airport's history began in 1914, when the Bulltofta heath was the site of a 3-team ballooning competition. Plans to develop the airport began in 1917 and construction was completed in 1923. Service began in 1924 with the routes Malmö–Copenhagen, the world's shortest, and Malmö–Hamburg (Germany). The Boeing 737 is a narrow-body aircraft produced by Boeing at its Boeing Renton Factory, Renton Factory in Washington (state), Washington. Malmö Airport, until 2007 known as ''Sturup Airport'' ( sv, Sturups flygplats) is Sweden's fourth busiest airport, handling 1,975,479 passengers in 2019. The airport is located in Svedala Municipality, approximately east of Malmö and south-east of Lund. The Vickers Viscount is a British medium-range turboprop airliner first flown in 1948 by Vickers-Armstrongs. A design requirement from the Brabazon Committee, it entered service in 1953 and was the first turboprop-powered airliner. The Viscount was well received by the public for its cabin conditions, which included pressurisation, reductions in vibration and noise, and panoramic windows. The Lockheed L-188 Electra is an American turboprop airliner built by Lockheed. First flown in 1957, it was the first large turboprop airliner built in the United States. Initial sales were good, but after two fatal crashes that led to expensive modifications to fix a design defect, no more were ordered. With its unique high power-to-weight ratio, huge propellers and very short wings (resulting in the majority of the wingspan being enveloped in propwash), large Fowler flaps which significantly increased effective wing area when extended, and four-engined design, the airplane had airfield performance capabilities unmatched by many jet transport aircraft even today—particularly on short runways and high field elevations. Eastern Airlines
Eastern Air Lines, also colloquially known as Eastern, was a major United States airline from 1926 to 1991. Before its dissolution, it was headquartered at Miami International Airport in an unincorporated area of Miami-Dade County, Florida. Eastern was one of the " Big Four" domestic airlines created by the Spoils Conferences of 1930, and was headed by World War I flying ace Eddie Rickenbacker in its early years. It had a near monopoly in air travel between New York and Florida from the 1930s until the 1950s and dominated this market for decades afterward. Skyline (Sweden)
Skyline was a Swedish charter airline which operated from 1971 to 1978. It had a fleet of Vickers Viscount aircraft, operating between one and three at any given time and a total of five aircraft. Based in Malmö, it initially flew out of Malmö Bulltofta Airport. The airport closed in 1972 and Skyline moved to Malmö Sturup Airport. From 1975 to 1977 the company experienced a major increase to traffic flying three aircraft for Linjeflyg for its scheduled, domestic network. Flying out of Stockholm Bromma Airport, it served seven towns in southern Sweden. On 15 January 1977 one its aircraft flying Linjeflyg Flight 618 crashed at Kälvesta during approach to Bromma, killing all 22 people on board.
