Fulton Township, Fountain County, Indiana
Fulton Township is one of eleven townships in Fountain County, Indiana, United States. As of the 2000 census, its population was 674. Geography Fulton Township covers an area of ; (0.91 percent) of this is water. It contains two unincorporated settlements: Cates, in the eastern part of the township, and Silverwood in the southwest, just north of Lodi in Parke County. Indiana State Road 234 passes through Silverwood on its way east from Cayuga in neighboring Vermillion County. Lodi (also called Fullerton, Gilderoy or Waterman) is an unincorporated community in Liberty Township, Parke County, Indiana. Vermillion County lies in the western part of the U.S. state of Indiana between the Illinois border and the Wabash River. As of the 2010 census, the population was 16,212. The county seat is Newport. It was officially established in 1824 and was the fiftieth Indiana county created. Vermillion County is included in the Terre Haute, Indiana, Metropolitan Statistical Area. Cayuga, Indiana
Cayuga is a town in Eugene Township, Vermillion County, in the U.S. state of Indiana. The population was 1,162 at the 2010 census. History When the town was laid out on September 20, 1827, it was called Eugene Station, though it was also called Osonimon after an Indian chief of that name. It was later renamed after the village of Cayuga and Cayuga Lake in the state of New York; an early settler named John Groenendyke had originally come from Cayuga County, New York, and moved to Vigo County in 1818, then in 1819 moved to the area that later became Vermillion County. The name is based on the Iroquois term ''Gwa-u-geh'', meaning "the place of taking out" (in terms of a portage). Local legend attributes the name to the sound made by the horn of a Ford Model T. State Road 234 exists in two sections in Indiana. The western portion begins at the Illinois border from a Vermilion County, Illinois, county road. It runs east from there to U.S. Route 136 (US 136) near Jamestown. Much of the route is a scenic, two-lane road with very tight turns. The primary access to Shades State Park is located along SR 234.
