Fulham
Fulham () is an area of the London Borough of Hammersmith and Fulham in West London, England, southwest of Charing Cross. It lies in a loop on the north bank of the River Thames, bordering Hammersmith, Kensington and Chelsea, London, Chelsea, with which it shares the area known as West Brompton. Over the Thames, Fulham faces Wandsworth, Putney, the London Wetland Centre in Barnes, London, Barnes in the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames. First recorded by name in 691, it was an extensive Anglo-Saxon settlement of Britain, Anglo-Saxon estate, the Fulham Palace, Manor of Fulham, and then a parish. Its domain stretched from modern-day Chiswick in the west to Chelsea, London, Chelsea in the southeast; and from Harlesden in the northwest to Kensal Green in the northeast bordered by the littoral of Counter's Creek and the Manor of Kensington. Fulham Palace
Fulham Palace lies on the north bank of the River Thames in Fulham, London, previously in the former English county of Middlesex. It is the site of the Manor of Fulham dating back to Anglo-Saxon settlement of Britain, Saxon times and in the continuous possession of the Bishop of London, bishops of London since the 8th century as Lord of the manor, lords of the manor until the 20th century. The much reduced estate comprises a Grade I listed complex with medieval origins and was formerly the principal residence of the Bishop of London from the 11th century until 1973. Though still owned by the Church of England, the palace, managed by the Fulham Palace Trust (registered charity 1140088), houses a number of restored historic rooms and a museum documenting its long history. The Metropolitan Borough of Fulham was a Metropolitan boroughs of the County of London, metropolitan borough in the County of London between 1900 and 1965, when it was merged with the Metropolitan Borough of Hammersmith to form the London Borough of Hammersmith and Fulham. Chelsea and Fulham is a constituency in Greater London represented since 2024 in the House of Commons of the UK Parliament by Ben Coleman of the Labour Party. Boundaries 2010–2024 Following the review of parliamentary representation in London, the boroughs of Kensington and Chelsea and Hammersmith and Fulham were paired for constituency allocation purposes and allocated three seats between them. West Brompton
West Brompton is an area of west London, England, that straddles the boundary between the London Borough of Hammersmith and Fulham and Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea. The centuries-old boundary traced by Counter's Creek, probably marked the eastern edge of Fulham Palace, Fulham Manor since Saxon times and is now partly lost beneath the West London Line railway. Fulham High Street
Fulham High Street is a street in Fulham, London. It runs north–south, from the junction with the western end of Fulham Road in the north, where it continues to Hammersmith as Fulham Palace Road, past the junction with the western end of King's Road, New King's Road, and ends in the south where it would have continued to cross the River Thames via Putney Bridge from 1729 to 1886. In 1886, a new stone bridge was built somewhat to the west of the existing bridge, and the old wooden bridge was demolished. Putney () is an affluent district in southwest London, England, in the London Borough of Wandsworth, southwest of Charing Cross. The area is identified in the London Plan as one of 35 major centres in Greater London. History Putney is an ancient parish which covered in the Hundred of Brixton in the county of Surrey. Its area has been reduced by the loss of Roehampton to the south-west, an offshoot hamlet that conserved more of its own clustered historic core.
