He was previously Prime Minister of France from 1974 to 1976 and 1986 to 1988, as well as Mayor of Paris from 1977 to 1995. Claude Guéant (born 17 January 1945) is a French former civil servant and politician of the conservative Union for a Popular Movement (UMP). A former chief of staff to Nicolas Sarkozy, he served as Minister of the Interior from 27 February 2011 until 15 May 2012. Early life and edcuation Guéant was born in Vimy.
