Freemansburg is a borough in Northampton County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 2,875 as of the 2020 census. The Lehigh River, a tributary of the Delaware River, flows through Freemansburg. Freemansburg is part of the Lehigh Valley metropolitan area, which had a population of 861,899 and was the 68th-most populous metropolitan area in the U.S. as of the 2020 census. History The area that would become Freemansburg was first settled by the Bachman family in the 1760s with their old stone house, which also doubled as a tavern, still standing on the western edge of the borough. The Bachmans resisted several attacks from local Indians who lived on the opposite bank of the Lehigh River. Shortly afterwards the Bachmans were joined by the Freemans as well as Moravians from neighboring Bethlehem who built a series of mills, as well as a distillery and tavern.
