Freedom Plains is a hamlet and census-designated place (CDP) in Dutchess County, New York, United States. As of the 2010 census the population was 421. Geography Freedom Plains is in the center of the town of LaGrange, in the south-central part of Dutchess County. New York State Route 55 passes through the hamlet, leading west to Poughkeepsie, the county seat, and southeast to Pawling. The Taconic State Parkway forms the eastern edge of Freedom Plains, leading north to its end at Interstate 90 and south to New York City. The CDP is bordered to the north by James Baird State Park. Arlington High School is a public high school in the Arlington Central School District located in LaGrange, New York, United States, on Route 55. It was established in the early 1900s, and was granted the charter for a six-years school in 1926. Today, it is intended for students in grades 9–12, as part of the Arlington Central School District. It is one of the largest high schools in the state of NY and is attend by 3,000 students. History The school, although not the current building, has its origins in the early years of the Arlington Union Free School District Number 7, the district's name from 1900 to 1961. The Arlington Central School District (abbreviated ACSD) is one of thirteen public school districts serving residents of Dutchess County, New York. The district was created in 1924. Organization Coverage area The district's territory covers substantial parts of the towns of: Beekman, La Grange, Pleasant Valley, Poughkeepsie, and Union Vale. The district also includes small parts of the following towns: East Fishkill, Hyde Park, Pawling, and Wappinger. James Baird State Park
James Baird State Park is a state park in Dutchess County, New York, United States. The park is located in the northern part of the Town of LaGrange, east of City of Poughkeepsie. History The park is named after James Baird (engineer and president of the George A. Fuller Company, a construction company), the donor of the land. Baird, who held a Ph.D. in engineering, formed the construction company that erected the Lincoln Memorial and the Folger Shakespeare Library. He donated his land to the state in 1939 for a park. The park formerly included a large community swimming pool, which was filled in by park management in the 1980s. Today, the bathhouse serves as a restroom and concession building has been demolished. The former pool area is bounded by rows of large elm trees. Taconic State Parkway
The Taconic State Parkway (often called the Taconic or the TSP) is a limited-access parkway between Kensico Dam and Chatham, the longest in the U.S. state of New York.
