Fredensborg-Humlebæk Municipality
Until January 1, 2007, Fredensborg-Humlebæk Kommune was a municipality ( Danish, '' kommune'') on the east coast of the island of Zealand (''Sjælland'') in eastern Denmark. The municipality covered an area of 72 km², and had a total population of 20,024 (2005). Its last mayor was John Hemming, a member of the Conservative People's Party (Det Konservative Folkeparti) political party. The site of its municipal council was in Fredensborg. The municipality was a conglomerate of several small towns, the two major ones being Fredensborg and Humlebæk. Fredensborg-Humlebæk municipality ceased to exist as the result of ''Kommunalreformen'' ("The Municipality Reform" of 2007). It was merged with Karlebo Kommune municipality to form the new Fredensborg Kommune. This created a municipality with an area of 112 km² and a total population of 39,187 (2005). Zealand ( ) is the largest and most populous islands of Denmark, island in Denmark proper (thus excluding Greenland and Disko Island, which are larger in size) at 7,031 km2 (2715 sq. mi.). The Conservative People's Party (, DKF), also known as The Conservatives () is a centre-right political party in Denmark. The party is a member of the International Democracy Union and the European People's Party. Fredensborg
Fredensborg () is a railway town located in Fredensborg Municipality, North Zealand, some 30 kilometres north of Copenhagen, Denmark. It is most known for Fredensborg Palace, one of the official residences of the Danish royal family. As of 1 January 2025, the town had a population of 8,968. History The earliest settlement in the area was the village of Asminderød. The town of Fredensborg emerged outside Fredensborg Palace, which was completed in 1722. Karlebo Kommune was until 1 January 2007 a municipality ( Danish, '' kommune'') in Frederiksborg County on the east coast of the island of Zealand (''Sjælland'') in eastern Denmark. The municipality covered an area of 40 km², and had a total population of 19,163 (2005). Its last mayor was Olav Aaen, a member of the Venstre (Liberal Party) political party. The main town and the site of its municipal council was the town of Kokkedal. Other towns in the municipality were Kirkelte, Karlebo, Gunderød, Avderød, Hesselrød, Vejenbrød, and Nivå. Fredensborg Municipality () is a municipality ( Danish, '' kommune'') in Region Hovedstaden (Capital Region). The municipality covers an area of 112.13 km2 and has a total population of 42,186 (as of 1. January 2025). Its mayor, since 2010, is Thomas Lykke Pedersen, a member of the Social Democrats (''Socialdemokraterne'') political party. The Capital Region of Denmark (, ) is the easternmost administrative region of Denmark, and contains Copenhagen, the national capital. The Capital Region has 29 municipalities and a regional council consisting of 41 elected members. Fredensborg Palace (; ) is a palace located on the eastern shore of Lake Esrum ( Danish, ''Esrum Sø'') in Fredensborg on the island of Zealand (''Sjælland'') in Denmark. It is the Danish royal family’s spring and autumn residence, and is often the site of important state visits and events in the royal family. It is the most used of the royal family’s residences. History At the end of the Great Northern War King Frederick IV asked architect Johan Cornelius Krieger, royal gardener to the court at Rosenborg Castle, to build him a small pleasure palace on the site of a farmyard named Østrup.
