François Olenga
François Olenga is an Army General of the Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (FARDC) and was one of its highest-ranking members along with Didier Etumba, the Chief of General Staff. He and Etumba both retired in July 2018, although they remain as military advisors to the head of state. Biography He joined the AFDL in 1996, and was made Inspector-General of the FAC in July 2005. Promoted Lieutenant-General on 13 June 2007 and retained the position of FARDC Inspector-General. Suspended after an assassination at his residence in April 2008. In June 2012, he was appointed as Chief of Staff of Land Forces. Land Forces Of The Democratic Republic Of The Congo
The Land Forces (french: Forces Terrestres), also called the Congolese Army, are the land warfare component and the largest branch of the Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (FARDC). The current Congolese army has its origins in the '' Force Publique'' that was active in the Belgian Congo, which was renamed the Congolese National Army (''Armée nationale congolaise'', ANC) when the country gained independence from Belgium in 1960. Patrice Émery Lumumba (; 2 July 1925 – 17 January 1961) was a Congolese politician and independence leader who served as the first prime minister of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (then known as the Republic of the Congo) from June until September 1960. A member of the Congolese National Movement (MNC), he led the MNC from 1958 until his execution in January 1961. Ideologically an African nationalist and pan-Africanist, he played a significant role in the transformation of the Congo from a colony of Belgium into an independent republic. Didier Etumba Longila (born 15 July 1955) is a retired Congolese military officer who served as Chief of General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of the Congo from 2008 until 2018. Etumba attended and graduated from the Royal Military Academy in Belgium before joining the Forces Armées Zaïroises. He held important positions in the Alliance of Democratic Forces for the Liberation of Congo during the First Congo War and Second Congo War. In 2007 he was appointed Chief of Staff of the Congolese Navy. He was made Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces the following year. He retired from the post on 14 July 2018.
