Franklin Pierce School District No. 402 or Franklin Pierce Schools is a school district headquartered in Parkland, Washington (the facility has a Tacoma mailing address). The district includes the majorities of Parkland, Clover Creek, Midland, and Summit. Additionally the district includes portions of Summit View and Waller and several blocks of Tacoma. History In 1998 voters in the district voted in favor of a school bond. In 2016, the voters again voted in favor of a school bond, this time worth $157 million. The bond needed at least 60% of the vote to pass. In 2019, the district began building five elementary schools using 2016 bond money. Facilities It has a farming area for both generating food and as an educational tool. The district paid $44,000 to acquire the land in 1970. Parkland, Washington
Parkland is a census-designated place (CDP) in Pierce County, Washington. The population was 35,803 at the time of the 2010 census and had grown to 38,623 as of the 2020 census. It is an unincorporated suburb of the city of Tacoma and is home to Pacific Lutheran University. Parkland borders most of Tacoma's southern cutoff at 96th St, and borders with much of the northern cutoff of Spanaway, Washington, at 152nd St (or Military Rd E). The most influential motorway is State Route 7/Pacific Ave, which travels north and south, and leads from Interstate 5 in Tacoma all the way to Mount Rainier. Pacific Ave is also a main commercial corridor through much of the county, including Parkland. ''The News Tribune'' is an American daily newspaper based in Tacoma, Washington. It is the second-largest daily newspaper in the state of Washington with a weekday circulation of 30,945 in 2020. With origins dating back to 1883, the newspaper was established under its current form in 1918. Locally owned for 73 years by the Baker family, the newspaper was purchased by McClatchy in 1986. History The newspaper can trace its origins back to the founding of the weekly ''Tacoma Ledger'' by R.F. Radebaugh in 1880 and H.C. Patrick, under the firm name Radebaugh & Company. Radebaugh had served on the reportorial staff of the San Francisco Chronicle. He first visited Tacoma in June 1879. Radebaugh grew to know Patrick, who owned and operated a weekly newspaper in Santa Cruz. Radebaugh and Patrick agreed to move the business to Tacoma. Clover Creek is a census-designated place (CDP) located in Pierce County, Washington. Demographics In 2010, it had a population of 6,522 inhabitants. 3,031 are male. 3,491 are female. Education The majority of the community is in the Franklin Pierce School District, while a portion lies in the Bethel School District (Washington), Bethel School District. Midland is a census-designated place (CDP) in Pierce County, Washington. The population was 9,962 at the time of the 2020 census. Geography According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 3.04 square miles (7.9 km2), all of it land. History The area that we have come to know as Midland in part was often referred to by the pioneers as Puyallup Hill. Taking advantage of the Governments Donation Land Grant of 1850, both Ezra Meeker and his older brother Oliver Meeker settled in the area in 1855. This was after their father, Jacob Meeker came west. Jacob settled in the area of South Tacoma. Not wanting to cross the sound Jacob talked both sons into moving to the mainland from their island home on McNeil Island.
