Franconia Township is a township in Chisago County, Minnesota, United States. The population was 1,805 at the 2010 census, up from 1,128 in 2000. The township is home to the Franconia Sculpture Park. History Franconia Township was organized in 1858, and took its name from Franconia, Minnesota. Geography Franconia Township is located in the southeast corner of Chisago County, on the west side of the St. Croix River, which forms the Wisconsin–Minnesota border. To the north are Shafer Township and the city of Shafer, to the north and west is Chisago Lake Township, and to the south in Washington County is the city of Scandia. The unincorporated community of Franconia is located in the northeast corner of the township. U.S. Highway 8 follows the northern border of the township, leading east to Taylors Falls and west to Lindstrom. Shafer Township is a township in Chisago County, Minnesota, United States. The population was 1,048 as of the 2010 census, up from 646 in 2000. Geography Shafer Township is located in southeast Chisago County, bordered to the east by the city of Taylors Falls and the St. Croix River, which is the Minnesota–Wisconsin border. The city of Shafer is in the southwest part of the township but an administratively separate entity. The unincorporated community of Palmdale is in the north. Trunk Highway 243 and State Trunk Highway 243 (MN 243, WIS 243) are two short state highways in the U.S. states of Minnesota and Wisconsin. They connect MN 95 in Franconia Township, Minnesota with WIS 35 in Osceola, Wisconsin. The two highways meet at the state line on a bridge across St. Croix River. The combined highway is in length, in Minnesota and in Wisconsin. The two highways were designated in 1949. The bridge across the St. Croix River dates to 1953.
