Biography Francisco Gomez is a native of Deming, New Mexico. His parents divorced when he was four years old, and he lived with his mother in Laredo and San Antonio, Texas. He then moved to Columbus, New Mexico with his father. It was through his moving that he began listening to not only country music, but also ''ranchera'' music. As he is of Hispanic descent, he thought that he would "stand out" as a country musician, citing other Hispanic artists such as Freddy Fender as inspiration on this front. Francisco Gómez de Sandoval y Rojas, 1st Duke of Lerma, 5th Marquess of Denia, 1st Count of Ampudia (1552/1553 – 17 May 1625), was a favourite of Philip III of Spain, the first of the '' validos'' ('most worthy') through whom the later Habsburg monarchs ruled. His administration was marked by costly wars, including the Twelve Years' Truce with the Dutch Republic, financial mismanagement, and the controversial expulsion of the Moriscos. Eventually, he was deposed in 1618 under a palace intrigue orchestrated by his son and political rival, Cristóbal de Sandoval. Lerma retired as a cardinal and was succeeded by the Count-Duke of Olivares but faced financial penalties and died in 1625 at Valladolid. Francisco Gómez de Quevedo y Santibáñez Villegas, Knight of the Order of Santiago (; 14 September 1580 – 8 September 1645) was a Spanish nobleman, politician and writer of the Baroque era. Along with his lifelong rival, Luis de Góngora, Quevedo was one of the most prominent Spanish poets of the age. His style is characterized by what was called ''conceptismo''. Francisco Esteban Gómez ( Santa Ana, December 26, 1783 – La Asunción, August 6, 1853 ) was a Venezuelan military officer who was active in the Venezuelan War of Independence. Known as the “patriot commander” of Margarita Island, he was noted for his participation in the defense of the island against invading Spanish forces. In particular, he is honored today as the hero of the Battle of Matasiete (1817). He started his career as a military officer and achieved the ranks of colonel, then general, major general of the army, and commanded the arms of the province of Cumaná. Francisco Gómez de Altamirano y de Elizondo (August 5, 1796 in Cartago, Costa Rica – May 17, 1838 in Guatemala) was a Central American licenciado, military officer and Liberal politician. From November 15, 1835 to February 1, 1836 he was chief of state of the state of El Salvador within the Central American Federation. Gómez's parents were José Luis Goméz de Altamirano y Gazo, a Peninsular, and Bartola de Elizondo, a native of Cartago. He was sent to Metapán, El Salvador as a child. Later he studied law in Guatemala, becoming a licenciado. Having accumulated some money, he moved back to Metapán, where he married Catalina Rodríguez. Francisco Gómez Hechavarría (born 7 February 1957) is a Cuban sprinter and long jumper. He competed in the men's 100 metres at the 1976 Summer Olympics. At the 1974 Central American and Caribbean Games, Gómez won the bronze medal in the long jump. At the 1976 Olympics, Gómez accused Olympic gold medalist Alberto Juantorena of sabotaging the Cuban national team by putting talcum powder on their beds in the Olympic village, a claim that Juantorena did not deny. The prank caused sprinter Silvio Leonard to trip and fall on glass requiring stitches, but for accusing Juantorena, the Cuban national team disciplined Gómez by leaving him in Montreal. Francisco Gomez (born January 25, 1979, in Watsonville, California) is an American former soccer player. Club career Gomez joined the Kansas City Wizards in 1999, after playing briefly with the California Jaguars of the A-League. He saw little playing time in his first two years, however - as a rookie, he appeared in seven games, scoring one goal, while in his second year he appeared in 14 (seven starts), scoring two goals and one assist. Gomez played a key role in Kansas City's road to MLS Cup 2000 scoring the game winner in quarterfinal game against the Colorado Rapids. Gomez began to see significantly increased playing time in 2001, when he appeared in 24 games, 18 of them starts, while scoring four goals and six assists.
