Francis FitzRoy Newdegate, 3rd Viscount Daventry
Francis Humphrey Maurice FitzRoy Newdegate, 3rd Viscount Daventry (17 December 1921 – 15 February 2000), was a British peer who was High Sheriff of Warwickshire during 1970 and Lord Lieutenant of Warwickshire from 1990 to 1997. Biography Lord Daventry was the son of Commander Hon John Maurice FitzRoy Newdegate, youngest son of Edward FitzRoy and Muriel FitzRoy, 1st Viscountess Daventry. His mother was Lucia Charlotte Susan Newdigate Newdegate, heiress of Sir Francis Newdegate, of Arbury Hall, Warwickshire. His father took the additional surname of Newdegate and inherited the Arbury estates on the death of his father-in-law in 1936. Lord Daventry came into the Arbury estates on the death of his father in 1976. He was High Sheriff of Warwickshire for 1970 and Lord Lieutenant of Warwickshire from 1990 to 1996. High Sheriff Of Warwickshire
This is a list of sheriffs and high sheriffs of the English county of Warwickshire. The Sheriff is the oldest secular office under the Crown. Formerly the Sheriff was the principal law enforcement officer in the county but over the centuries most of the responsibilities associated with the post have been transferred elsewhere or are now defunct, so that its functions are now largely ceremonial. Under the provisions of the Local Government Act 1972, on 1 April 1974 the office previously known as Sheriff was retitled High Sheriff. Sir William Dugdale, 2nd Baronet
Sir William Stratford Dugdale, 2nd Baronet, (29 March 1922 – 13 November 2014) was the chairman of Aston Villa F.C., Aston Villa from 1975 to 1978. Dugdale arrived at Aston Villa as a director when they were in the third division, having been relegated due to poor performances on and off the pitch. He left the club in 1982, the year they won the European Cup. Following several successful years as a director in the early-1970s, he was elected chairman in 1975, taking over the position from Doug Ellis, the package tour, package holiday businessman, before being replaced by Harry Kartz. Viscount Daventry, of Daventry in the Northamptonshire, County of Northampton, is a title in the Peerage of the United Kingdom. It was created on 6 May 1943 for Muriel FitzRoy, 1st Viscountess Daventry, Muriel FitzRoy (née Douglas-Pennant), in honour of her late husband, the Hon. Edward FitzRoy, Speaker of the House of Commons (United Kingdom), Speaker of the House of Commons from 1928 until his death in 1943. The first Viscountess was the sister of Frank Douglas-Pennant, 5th Baron Penrhyn, whilst Edward FitzRoy was the second son of Charles FitzRoy, 3rd Baron Southampton, and a male-line descendant of Charles FitzRoy, 2nd Duke of Grafton. Sir Charles Mortimer Tollemache Smith-Ryland KCVO (24 May 1927 – 14 November 1989) was Lord Lieutenant of Warwickshire from 1968 to 1989. Career The son of Captain Charles Ivor Phipson Smith-Ryland, he was educated at Eton College and married Jeryl Marcia Sarah Gurdon, daughter of Robert Brampton Gurdon and sister of the third Baron Cranworth, in 1952. He served in the Coldstream Guards from 1945 to 1948. He was a member of Warwickshire County Council from 1949, being vice-chairman in 1963 and chairman from 1964 to 1967. Appointed a Deputy Lieutenant of Warwickshire in 1954 and High Sheriff of Warwickshire from 1967–1968, he was Lord Lieutenant of Warwickshire from 1968–1989.
