Fort Henry is an Unincorporated area#United States, unincorporated community in Randolph County, Missouri, Randolph County, in the U.S. state of Missouri. The community is on Missouri Route O approximately 3.5 miles west-northwest of Huntsville, Missouri, Huntsville. History A post office called Fort Henry was established in 1857, and remained in operation until 1875. The name "Fort Henry" is a backwards rendering of the name of Henry Fort, a pioneer citizen. The community once had a schoolhouse, now defunct. Randolph County, Missouri
Randolph County is a county in the northern portion of the U.S. state of Missouri. As of the 2020 census, the population was 24,716. Its county seat is Huntsville. The county was organized January 22, 1829, and named for U.S. Representative and U.S. Senator John Randolph of Roanoke, Virginia. Randolph County comprises the Moberly, Missouri Micropolitan Statistical Area, which is also included in the Columbia-Moberly-Mexico, Missouri Combined Statistical Area. History Randolph County was primarily settled by migrants from the Upper Southern states, especially Kentucky and Tennessee. They brought slaves and slaveholding traditions with them, and quickly started cultivating crops similar to those in Middle Tennessee and Kentucky: hemp and tobacco. Huntsville, Missouri
Huntsville is a city in and the county seat of Randolph County, Missouri, United States. The population was 1,376 at the 2020 census. History Randolph County was organized February 2, 1829, and Huntsville was established as the county seat in 1831. Daniel Hunt, a Kentuckian, was the first settler of Huntsville, in honor of whom the town was named. He settled here between 1820 and 1821. He was soon followed by William Goggin, Gideon Wright and Henry Winburn, also from Kentucky. William Goggins established a mill here, the first in the county. They entered the land from the government upon which Huntsville is located and donated 50 acres for a town site, giving 12 1/2 acres each forming an exact square, the dome of the court house being the center.
