Forlì Cathedral
Forlì Cathedral, otherwise the Cathedral of the Holy Cross (), is the Roman Catholic cathedral of Forlì, Emilia-Romagna, Italy. Formerly the seat of the bishop of Forlì, it has been since 1986 the episcopal seat of the Diocese of Forlì-Bertinoro. History The cathedral of Santa Croce existed as early as 562. In 1419 Pope Martin V ordered restorations that were completed in 1475. It was almost entirely rebuilt in 1841, with the principal exception of the 17th-century chapel of the Madonna del Fuoco; the sacred image contained there was formerly in a private house, where it remained unharmed during a fire. Giovanni Battista Cirri
Giovanni Battista Cirri (1 October 1724 – 11 June 1808) was an Italian cellist and composer in the 18th century. Biography Cirri was born in Forlì in the Emilia-Romagna Region of Italy. He had his first musical training with his brother Ignazio (1711–1787) and was for a time organist at Forlì Cathedral. He also studied with Giovanni Battista Martini, in Bologna. In 1739 he was admitted to Holy Orders but decided to pursue a musical career. From 1759 he was a member of the "Accademia Filarmonica". He was in Paris during the first half of the 1760s and his first works were published including a "Symphony" which was performed at the Concert Spirituel on 5 April 1763. In 1764 he settled in London where he was employed as chamber musician to the Duke of York and Albany and director of music to the Duke of Gloucester and Edinburgh. Ignazio Cirri
Ignazio Cirri or Giacomo Matteo Ignazio Cirri (20 September 1711 – 13 July 1787) was an Italian organist and composer in the 18th century. He was the brother of composer Giovanni Battista Cirri and the father of composer and violoncellist Giovanni Battista Cirri (born 1740). He was born and died in Forlì (current Emilia-Romagna). He was a friend of Giovanni Battista Martini, who had a portrait of Ignazio Cirri among his valuable men's portraits. In 1759, he became Maestro di cappella in the Cathedral of Forlì and he was admitted in the Philharmonic Academy of Bologna. Giulio Belli
Giulio Belli (c. 1560 – 1621 or later) was an Italian composer of the late Renaissance and early Baroque eras. He was a prolific composer during the transitional time between the two musical eras, and worked in many cities in northern Italy. Life He was born in Longiano, near Forlì. He studied in Naples as a boy, but most of his career was spent in northern Italy. In 1582 he took a position as ''maestro di cappella'' at Imola cathedral. For the rest of his life he worked in a number of Italian cities in a similar capacity: in Carpi (1591), Venice, at Cà Grande (1594 or 1595), Montagnana (1595), Ferrara (1597), Osimo (1599), Ravenna (1600), Reggio (1603), Forlì (later in 1603–1606). Pope Martin V (; ; January/February 1369 – 20 February 1431), born Oddone Colonna, was the head of the Catholic Church and ruler of the Papal States from 11 November 1417 to his death in February 1431. His election effectively ended the Western Schism of 1378–1417. As of 2025, he remains the last pope to have taken the pontifical name "Martin".
