Fontana, California
Fontana is a city in San Bernardino County, California, United States. Founded by Azariel Blanchard Miller in 1913, it remained essentially rural until World War II, when entrepreneur Henry J. Kaiser built a large steel mill in the area. It is now a regional hub of the trucking industry, with the east–west Interstate 10 and State Route 210 crossing the city and Interstate 15 passing diagonally through its northwestern quadrant. The city is about east of Los Angeles. The United States Census Bureau reported that Fontana's 2020 population was 208,393, making it the second-most-populous city in San Bernardino County and the 20th largest in the state. History Native Americans inhabited the area. Fontana, formerly Rosena from 1890 to 1919, was founded in 1919 by Azariel Blanchard Miller. Fontana Dam is a hydroelectric dam on the Little Tennessee River in Swain County, North Carolina, Swain and Graham County, North Carolina, Graham counties, North Carolina, United States. Fontana, Kansas
Fontana is a city in south central Miami County, Kansas, United States, and is part of the Kansas City metropolitan area. As of the 2020 census, the population of the city was 210. The name Fontana comes from the French word fontaine, meaning fountain or a spring-like water source. It was given to the small city from a spring near the town site. History Captain David Martin, a veteran of the War of 1812, received a land grant for in Lykins County, Kansas (Miami County, Kansas) due to an 1855 congressional act. Fontana (), as a local council, is an administrative unit of Malta, on the island of Gozo, with a population of 985 people (as of March 2014). History Fontana originated from the suburb of Victoria on the Rabat-Xlendi road. It took its local name, "It-Triq tal-Għajn" (lit. the way to the spring), from a spring at the bottom of the road leading to Xlendi, known locally as "l-Għajn il-Kbira", (the big spring). Fontana Dam (also known as Fontana Village) is a town in Graham County, North Carolina, United States. Fontana Dam is located on North Carolina Highway 28 near the Fontana Dam and the Little Tennessee River. The town incorporated in 2011 and had a full-time population of 33. History The first town called Fontana in North Carolina was a tent town of the Montvale Lumber Company in 1890. The name was given by Mrs. George Leidy Wood, wife of the vice-president of the company. A permanent town was constructed nearby in 1907 to support nearby copper mines, and an extension of the Murphy Branch of the Southern Railway (US), Southern Railway was constructed from Bushnell, 15 miles away.
