Alphonsus (Fonse) Faour (born November 16, 1951, in Corner Brook, Corner Brook, Newfoundland) is a former Canadians, Canadian politician. Faour represented the electoral district (Canada), electoral district of Humber—St. George's—St. Barbe, which he won in a 1978 by-election following the resignation of Jack Marshall (Canadian politician), Jack Marshall. In the 1979 Canadian federal election, general election the following year, Faour retained the renamed seat of Humber—Port au Port—St. Barbe. However, in the 1980 Canadian federal election, 1980 election, Faour was defeated by Brian Tobin. After the election, he became leader of the Newfoundland and Labrador New Democratic Party from 1980 to 1981. He resigned due to difficulties in concurrently maintaining his law practice and leading the party without a seat in the legislature. Corner Brook ( 2021 population: 19,316 CA 29,762) is a city located on the west coast of the island of Newfoundland in the province of Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada. Corner Brook is the fifth largest settlement in Newfoundland and Labrador, and the largest outside the Avalon Peninsula. Located on the Bay of Islands at the mouth of the Humber River, the city is the second-largest population centre in the province behind St. John's, and smallest of three cities behind St. John's and Mount Pearl. As such, Corner Brook functions as a service centre for western and northern Newfoundland. Peter Fenwick (born July 18, 1944) is a Canadians, Canadian politician. He is a former leader of the Newfoundland and Labrador New Democratic Party. Fenwick was born in St. Thomas, Ontario to Digby and Benoit Fenwick of Montreal and Stanbridge East. He and his wife Jennifer moved to Cape St George, Newfoundland in 1968. He was a community college teacher when he was acclaimed provincial NDP leader at the party's convention on November 8, 1981. Fenwick was first elected to the Newfoundland and Labrador House of Assembly in a 1984 by-election in Labrador West (electoral district), Menihek, Labrador. He was the first member of the party to be elected to a seat in the House of Assembly. He was re-elected in 1985 Newfoundland general election, 1985.
