Flynn, Victoria
Flynn is a locality in Victoria, Australia, situated on the border of the City of Latrobe and Shire of Wellington. In the 2016 census, Flynn had a population of 180. A railway station was established on the Gippsland railway line at what was then named Flynn's Creek 1880, and was renamed Flynn 1910s. It was destaffed in 1926 due to insufficient traffic and was closed permanently in the 1970s. A post office at the station opened in November 1880, was renamed Flinnstead on 1 July 1894, was renamed again to Flynn on 21 September 1926 and closed on 20 December 1968. A state school and store also once existed in the station precinct. The Division of Gippsland is an Australian electoral division in the state of Victoria. The division was proclaimed in 1900, and was one of the original 65 divisions to be contested at the first federal election. It is named for the Gippsland region of eastern Victoria, which in turn is named for Sir George Gipps, Governor of New South Wales 1838–1846. Princes Highway
Princes Highway is a major road in Australia, extending from Sydney via Melbourne to Adelaide through the states of New South Wales, Victoria and South Australia. It has a length of (along Highway 1) or via the former alignments of the highway, although these routes are slower and connections to the bypassed sections of the original route are poor in many cases. The highway follows the coastline for most of its length, and thus takes quite an indirect and lengthy route. For example, it is from Sydney to Melbourne on Highway 1 as opposed to on the more direct Hume Highway ( National Highway 31), and from Melbourne to Adelaide compared to on the Western and Dukes Highways ( National Highway 8). The ''Traralgon Record'' was a weekly newspaper published in Traralgon, Victoria from 1883 to 1932. History The ''Traralgon Record'' was published from 14 December 1883 until 22 December 1932, when it was incorporated into the ''Traralgon Journal''. It was also known as the ''Traralgon record and Morwell, Mirboo, Toongabbie, Heyfield, Tyers & Callignee advertiser''. John Baird was the proprietor of the ''Traralgon Record'' until December 1885, when it was purchased by Neale & Co. Neale & Co then sold to Ford Bros in February 1886, who then sold to Mr J. Burland & Mr A.C. Stevens in September 1888. In 1890, the partnership between Mr J. Burland and Mr A.C. Stevens was dissolved and Mr A. C. Stevens became partners with Mr John Guest, whose family continued to own the paper until it ceased on 22 December 1932. __NOTOC__ The ''Evelyn Observer'' was a weekly newspaper released from 1873 to 1942 in the north-east area of Melbourne, Victoria in Australia. It was first published on 31 October 1873 from a school house at Kangaroo Ground. Andrew Ross, the district's first school master and hotel-keeper was the ''Observers first proprietor, and he enlisted the help of a printer, John Rossiter, who became the first editor. It then operated out of a dedicated building on the top of a hill. After the transfer of the newspaper office to Hurstbridge, the building was purchased by the Eltham Shire Council. The Gippsland line (also known as the Orbost railway line) is a railway line serving the Latrobe Valley and Gippsland regions of Victoria, Australia. It runs east from the state capital Melbourne through the cities of Moe, Morwell, Traralgon, Sale and terminating at Bairnsdale. Prior to its dismantling in 1994, the line extended to Orbost. The 2016 Australian census was the 17th national population census held in Australia. The census was officially conducted with effect on Tuesday, 9 August 2016.
