Florică Murariu
Florică Murariu (28 March 1955 – 24 December 1989) was a Romanian professional rugby union flanker. Career Murariu spent his entire career playing for Steaua Bucharest, where he won 10 league titles. He won 69 caps for Romania, from 1976 to 1989, and scored 8 tries, 32 points on aggregate. He made his international debut against France on 14 November 1976. He captained his country for the first time on 12 April 1986 against France. He was called for the 1987 Rugby World Cup, playing in two games and scoring 2 tries, 8 points on aggregate. His final international appearance came against England on 13 May 1989. Murariu was an officer in the Romanian Army and was shot dead at a roadblock during the 1989 Revolution. The Cupa României () is a Association football, football cup competition for List of football clubs in Romania, Romanian teams which has been held annually since 1933–34 Cupa României, 1933–34, except during World War II. It is the Romania, country's main cup competition, being open to all clubs affiliated with the Romanian Football Federation (FRF) and the county football associations regardless of the league they belong to. The Rugby Europe International Championships is the European Championship for tier 2 and tier 3 rugby union nations. The tournament is the latest formation of a competition with history going back to 1932. At that time, France had been expelled from the then Five Nations, and joined with a number of European teams to found an alternative organisation, the FIRA-AER, International Amateur Rugby Federation (FIRA, now Rugby Europe). While France were eventually readmitted to the Five Nations, the then FIRA-AER continued to run competitions, increasingly taking the role of organiser of European continental rugby below the Five Nations, and in which France continued to compete. The Liga Națională de Rugby () is a professional rugby union club competition that is played in Romania. In the 2023 season there are 14 teams competing. The competition was established in 1913 and is governed by the Romanian Rugby Federation. Steaua București is the most successful club in the competition with 24 titles. History The first Romanian competition took place in 1914 between two Bucharest team's in Tennis Club Român and Sporting Club with Tennis Club Român taking out the first title winning both of the matches by eight and three points respectively.
