The Flock (band)
The Flock was an American, Chicago-based jazz rock band, that released two albums on Columbia Records in 1969 (''The Flock (album), The Flock'') and 1970 (''Dinosaur Swamps''). The Flock did not achieve the commercial success of other Columbia jazz-rock groups of the era such as Chicago (band), Chicago and Blood Sweat & Tears, but were recognized for featuring a violin prominently in their music. The violinist, Jerry Goodman, went on to become a member of Mahavishnu Orchestra and a solo artist. They also received some exposure with their release of a cover of The Kinks' "Tired Of Waiting For You" as a single in April 1970 (CBS 4932). History The Flock had three early singles on Destination Records and one on USA Records, local Chicago labels, recorded between 1966 and 1968. Goodman was not in this line-up but worked as a roadie with the band. All four singles, "Can't You See (That I Really Love Her)", "Are You The Kind", "Take Me Back" and "What Would You Do If The Sun Died?" ar ...

Flocking (behavior)
Flocking is the behavior exhibited when a group of birds, called a flock, are foraging or in flight. Sheep and goats also exhibit flocking behavior. Flocking by birds and mammals is similar to schooling in fish and these are often studied together. Flocking is generally believed to arise from the need for cover and protection from predators in animal behavior. This is an emergent behaviour governed by local rules that are followed by individuals and does not involve any central coordination. In nature There are parallels with the shoaling behaviour of fish, the swarming behaviour of insects, and herd behaviour of land animals. During the winter months, starlings are known for aggregating into huge flocks of hundreds to thousands of individuals, murmurations, which when they take flight altogether, render large displays of intriguing swirling patterns in the skies above observers. Measurement Measurements of bird flocking have been made using high-speed cameras, and a ...
