Flatøy is an island in Alver Municipality in Vestland county, Norway. The island lies in the district of Nordhordland, just north of the city of Bergen. The main village on the island is Krossneset on the southern part of the island. The northern part of the island, on the southwest shore of Kvernafjord, is very sparsely inhabited. Historically, the island was one of the two main islands of the old Meland Municipality. The island is strategically located at a major transportation crossroads. It lies between the Salhus neighborhood in the city of Bergen (to the south), the island of Holsnøy (to the west), and the village of Knarvik to the east. The island is connected to these larger communities by three bridges: Nordhordland Bridge connects it to Salhus, the Krossnessundet Bridge connects it to Holsnøy, and the Hagelsund Bridge connects it to Knarvik. Holsnøy
Holsnøy is an island in Alver Municipality in Vestland county, Norway. The island lies to the north/west of the mainland, between the islands of Radøy to the north and Askøy to the south. The highest point on the island is the tall Eldsfjellet, a mountain located about north of the village of Rossland. The island is hilly and marshy, with the majority of the residents living along the southern shore. The largest settlement on the island is the village of Frekhaug on the southern shore. Holsnøy was the largest island in the old Meland municipality, where it made up 98% of the land area of the municipality. The island is connected to the mainland road network by a series of bridges. Flatøy Rock
Flatøy Rock is a music festival held on the island of Flatøy, in western Norway. It was started in a garden by Vegard Flatøy and his friends in the summer of 2008, while Flatøy's parents were on vacation in Lanzarote. In the beginning, the stages were self-roofed by a garden tent. In 2011, the festival had grown too big for the garden, so it moved to the islands closed elementary schools yard, where it could hold a bigger crowd. It expanded into a two-day festival in 2012. Flatøy Rock is based on the volunteer work of the inhabitants of Flatøy, although many of its guests come from the nearby municipalities of Lindås, Meland and Bergen. Its philosophy has been to promote up-and-coming artists and acts which normally do not get big stage attention. Flatøy Rock also has a sub-festival for people under 18 years of age. Frekhaug is a village in Alver Municipality, located in Vestland county, Norway. The village sits at the southern tip of the island of Holsnøy. Hagelsund Bridge
The Hagelsund Bridge () is a suspension bridge in Alver Municipality in Vestland county, Norway. The bridge connects the island of Flatøy with the village of Knarvik on the mainland. Nordhordland Bridge
The Nordhordland Bridge () is a combined cable-stayed and pontoon bridge which crosses Salhusfjorden between Klauvaneset (in Bergen Municipality) and the island of Flatøy (in Alver Municipality) in Vestland county, Norway. It is long, of which the pontoon section is long. The cable-stayed section consists of a single tall H-pylon which has a length of and a main span of . This allows for a clearance of . The floating section is a steel box girder bridge with ten pontoons, which because of the fjord's depth are not laterally anchored. The roadway sits on an orthotropic deck. Knarvik
Knarvik (or Knarrviki) is the administrative centre of Alver Municipality in Vestland county, Norway. The village is located on the mainland, about straight north of Bergen (city), Bergen at the confluence of four fjords: Osterfjorden (heading east), Sørfjorden (Osterøy), Sørfjorden (heading southeast), Salhusfjorden (heading southwest), and the Radfjorden (heading northwest).
