Flagey Building
The Flagey Building (; ), also known as the Radio House (; ), is a building located in Ixelles, a municipality of Brussels, Belgium, housing the Flagey cultural centre. It is located on the south-western corner of the Place Eugène Flagey/Eugène Flageyplein, with its main entrance on the /. The building, parts of which are listed, was designed by the architect and completed in 1938 in Streamline Moderne, an international style of Art Deco. It owes its name to , a Belgian lawyer and politician who was mayor of Ixelles from 1935 to 1953. It served as the former headquarters of the Belgian National Institute of Radio Broadcasting (INR/NIR). When the broadcaster left in 1974, the building was refurbished as a cultural community centre. Place Eugène Flagey
The (French language, French, ) or (Dutch language, Dutch), usually shortened to the Place Flagey, or Flagey by locals, is a Town square, square in the Ixelles municipality of Brussels, Belgium. It bears the name of a former mayor of Ixelles, Eugène Flagey. With ten streets converging there, the Place Flagey is one of the best connected Intersection (road), crossroads in the city, directly adjacent to the neighbouring Ixelles Ponds. Until 1937, the square was known as the /, but this name only now applies to the square in front of the Church of the Holy Cross on the south-western corner. Chesney Henry "Chet" Baker Jr. (December 23, 1929 – May 13, 1988) was an American jazz trumpeter and vocalist. He is known for major innovations in cool jazz that led him to be nicknamed the "Prince of Cool". The Brussels Philharmonic is a Belgian orchestra located in Brussels. Formerly known as the Groot Symfonie-Orkest, BRT Philharmonic Orchestra, and later as the Flemish Radio Orchestra, the orchestra has been linked to the Flemish public broadcaster NIR/INR (the present VRT). History The orchestra was founded in 1935 as a studio ensemble of public broadcasting with the name of Groot Symfonie-Orkest. Ixelles Ponds
The Ixelles Ponds () or Elsene Ponds () are two freshwater ponds in the Brussels municipality of Ixelles, Belgium. The ponds we can see today are those spared by a 19th-century campaign of drying the wetlands of the Maelbeek valley between La Cambre Abbey and the Place Eugène Flagey/Eugène Flageyplein. The two long and narrow ponds, whose total lengths are approximately , and widths are approximately , are aligned on a roughly North–South axis and are separated by a narrow strip of land. With the surrounding park, the Ixelles Ponds are the tip of a long strip of almost uninterrupted greenery reaching all the way from the Sonian Forest deep into Brussels' urban tissue.
