The Fiscal Information and Investigation Service (, FIOD) is an agency of the government of the Netherlands responsible for investigating financial crimes. It is part of the Tax and Customs Administration, which itself falls under the responsibility of the Ministry of Finance (Netherlands), Dutch Ministry of Finance. History The FIOD-ECD was formed when the FIOD and the ECD () were merged in 1999. In 2010, the name was changed to FIOD. Role The FIOD's main roles are in investigation and governance. Investigations are mainly carried out into economic, Fiscal policy, fiscal and financial fraud. Governance is carried out in economic and financial areas. Eelco Heinen (born 27 April 1981) is a Dutch politician serving since 2 July 2024 as the Minister of Finance. A member of the People's Party for Freedom and Democracy (VVD), he held a seat in the House of Representatives between March 2021 and July 2024, and he previously worked as a party staffer. Early life and career He was born in 1981 in the North Holland town Laren and studied computer science at the Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences from 1998 until 2002. Heinen subsequently studied economics at the University of Amsterdam. After he graduated with a Master of Science degree in macroeconomics in 2005, he did another master's in international relations. The Tax and Customs Administration () is the tax collection agency of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, operating under the Ministry of Finance.
