The First Baptist Church is a historic church building in Red Cloud, Nebraska. It was built in 1884 thanks to the American Baptist Home Mission Society. With Author Willa Cather grew up attending this church with her parents, and she wrote about it in her 1915 novel, '' The Song of the Lark''. Red Cloud, Nebraska
Red Cloud is a city in and the county seat of Webster County, Nebraska, United States. The population was 962 at the 2020 census. History The region of present-day Red Cloud was intermittently occupied and used as hunting grounds by the Pawnees until 1833. In that year, a treaty was signed in which the Pawnees surrendered their lands south of the Platte River. According to George Hyde, it is likely that the Pawnees did not realize that they were thereby giving up their lands, and that they were led to believe that they were only granting the Delawares and other relocated tribes permission to hunt in the area.Hyde, George E. ''The Song of the Lark'' is a novel by American author Willa Cather, written in 1915. It is her third novel to be published. The book tells the story of a talented artist born in a small town in Colorado who discovers and develops her singing voice. Her story is told against the backdrop of the burgeoning American West in which she was born in a town along the rail line, of fast-growing Chicago near the turn of the twentieth century, and of the audience for singers of her skills in the US compared to Europe.
