Fionnuala Ní Aoláin
Fionnuala Ní Aoláin (; born 1967 in Galway) is an Irish academic lawyer specialising in human rights law. She was the Special Rapporteur on the promotion and protection of human rights and fundamental freedoms while countering terrorism for the United Nations Human Rights Council from August 1, 2017 - November 2023. Career Ní Aoláin graduated from Queen's University, Belfast (LLB 1990, PhD 1998), and Columbia Law School (LLM 1996). She was a Visiting Fellow of Harvard Law School's Human Rights Program in 1994. At Columbia University she was an Associate-in-Law at Columbia Law School from 1994 to 1996, and then a visiting professor at the School of International and Public Affairs, Columbia University from 1996 to 2000. She was appointed associate professor of law at Hebrew University in Jerusalem from 1997 to 1999. Good Friday Agreement
The Good Friday Agreement (GFA) or Belfast Agreement ( or ; or ) is a pair of agreements signed on 10 April (Good Friday) 1998 that ended most of the violence of the Troubles, an ethno-nationalist conflict in Northern Ireland since the late 1960s. It was a major development in the Northern Ireland peace process of the 1990s. It is made up of the Multi-Party Agreement between most of Northern Ireland's political parties, and the BritishIrish Agreement between the British and Irish governments. The Irish Council for Civil Liberties () is an Irish non-profit organisation dedicated to supporting the civil liberties and human rights of people in Ireland. History Founded on by future President Mary Robinson, Kader Asmal and others, the organisation's primary role is in campaigning for civil rights. It also networks with other civil rights groups nationally and internationally.
