Finley is an unincorporated community in Dyer County, Tennessee, United States. It is located roughly 5.5 miles west of downtown Dyersburg along Tennessee State Route 104. The Geographic Names Information System (GNIS) is a database of name and locative information about more than two million physical and cultural features throughout the United States and its territories, Antarctica, and the associated states of the Marshall Islands, Federated States of Micronesia, and Palau. Tennessee State Route 182
State Route 182 (abbreviated SR 182) is a secondary state highway in western Dyer County, Tennessee, United States. This route is primarily rural in nature throughout its length. Route description The first of SR 182 from its southern terminus with SR 104 to Interstate 155 is a modern two-lane facility with a speed limit. I-155 ended at Exit 7 during the 1970s and this section of SR 182 also served as a temporary link to SR 104 for eastbound motorists until the freeway was completed to Exit 15. SR 182 north of I-155 to its northern terminus with SR 78 is quite circuitous as the highway winds its way up the Chickasaw Bluff. This section of SR 182 has numerous hills and curves and features narrow roadway width and reduced speed limits. SR 182 is signed as a south–north route, however, the highway actually follows a west–east direction from Lenox to SR 78. State Route 104 (SR 104) is 114.43 mile long east-west state highway in West Tennessee. Route description Dyer County SR 104 begins as a secondary highway in Dyer County on the banks of the Mississippi River. It goes east to have an intersection with SR 181 (Great River Road) before crossing over the Obion River to pass through Finley, where it has an intersection with SR 182. The highway now enters Dyersburg and passes through industrial areas before having an intersection with US 51/ SR 3 (Highway 51 Bypass). SR 104 then passes through neighborhoods before entering downtown along Forrest Street to have an intersection with SR 78 (Lake Road), where it becomes McGaughey Street. Dyersburg, Tennessee
Dyersburg is a city and the county seat of Dyer County, Tennessee, United States. It is located in northwest Tennessee, northeast of Memphis on the Forked Deer River. The population was 16,164 at the 2020 census, down 5.72% from the 2010 census. History Early history The lands that make up Dyersburg once belonged to the Chickasaw people. The final treaty by which they relinquished all of West Tennessee was signed in 1818. 19th century The first European settlers began to arrive in the area around 1819. In 1823, the Tennessee General Assembly passed an act to establish two new counties immediately west of the Tennessee River, Dyer County being one of them. John McIver and Joel H. Dyer donated for the new county seat, named Dyersburg, at a central location within the county known as "McIver's Bluff". In 1825, Dyer surveyed the town site into 86 lots. Area code 731 is a telephone area code in the North American Numbering Plan (NANP) for the western part of the U.S. state of Tennessee. The numbering plan area (NPA) includes the cities of Jackson, Tiptonville, Savannah, Union City, Dyersburg, Lexington, Ripley, Martin, Brownsville, Paris, and Bolivar. Area code 731 was created in September 2001 in a split from area code 901, which was the original area code created for the entire state in 1947.
