Finisar
Finisar Corporation is a manufacturer of optical communication components and subsystems. The company was founded in April 1987 by Frank Levinson and Jerry S. Rawls, Jerry Rawls in Menlo Park, California. In November 1999, it went public via an initial public offering. In 2008 Finisar merged with Optium Corporation. In September 2019, Finisar was acquired by II-VI Incorporated for US$3.2 billion. Finisar's products include optical transceivers, optical engines, active optical cables, optical components, optical instrumentation, Reconfigurable optical add-drop multiplexer, ROADM & wavelength management, optical amplifiers, and RF-over-Fiber. Their products enable high-speed voice, video, and data communications for networking, storage, wireless, and cable Apple TV app, TV applications. Coherent Corp. (formerly II-VI Incorporated) is an American manufacturer of optical materials and semiconductors. As of 2023, the company had 26,622 employees. Their stock is listed at the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker symbol COHR. In 2022, II-VI acquired laser manufacturer Coherent, Inc., and adopted its name. History Coherent was founded as II-VI Incorporated in 1971 by Carl Johnson and James Hawkey. The name "II-VI" is a reference to the groups II and VI in the periodic table, since the company started its business by producing cadmium telluride (cadmium belongs to alkaline earth metal, group II and tellurium belongs to chalcogen, group VI). The company's first products included lenses, windows, and mirrors for carbon-dioxide laser, CO lasers. The company held its initial public offering in 1987.
