Ffos Las
Ffos Las is a rural area between the villages of Carway and Trimsaran, north of the town of Llanelli in the Gwendraeth Valley in Carmarthenshire, Wales. The Ffos Las area is named after a farm which had existed at the site before mining operations began. The English translation of ''ffos las'' is ''blue trench''. Ffos Las was once the site of an open cast mining operation which operated between 1983 and 1997. At one time, it was the largest open cast mine in Europe and was 500 ft deep. Ffos Las is now best known for the Ffos Las racecourse which was completed in 2009 and is built on top of the in-filled open cast mine. The racecourse hosts a variety of events that range from equestrian sports to live performances by musical artists, the most notable being popular indie band, Kaiser Chiefs. Carway () is a village situated to the north-west of the town of Llanelli in the county of Carmarthenshire, Wales, in the Gwendraeth Valley. Trimsaran
Trimsaran is a community and former mining village which lies on the B4308 between Llanelli and Kidwelly, in Carmarthenshire, Wales. Trimsaran is six miles (10 km) from Llanelli, and from Carmarthen. It is close to Burry Port harbour, Pembrey Country Park and the Millennium Coastal Park. The community is bordered by the communities of: Llangyndeyrn; Llanelli Rural; Pembrey and Burry Port Town; and Kidwelly, all being in Carmarthenshire. Between 1909 and 1953 Trimsaran Road railway station on what had been the Burry Port and Gwendraeth Valley Railway, served the miners and the residents of the village and locality. Llanelli

River Gwendraeth
The River Gwendraeth () is a river in Carmarthenshire in West Wales. It has two almost equal branches that have their confluence in their joint estuary at Carmarthen Bay. The Gwendraeth Fawr ('large Gwendraeth' in English) is surprisingly the smaller and has its source in a series of springs to the north of Cross Hands, the most northerly of which rises to the north of Gorslas in the Llyn Llech Owain Country Park, just above the contour. Below Cross Hands, it skirts the northern edge of Mynydd Mawr Woodland Park, and flows to the south of Drefach. It crosses the contour to pass through Pontyberem, Pont Henri and Pontyates, by which time it is less than above sea level.
