The Albanian participating broadcaster, (RTSH), selected its entry through the national selection competition Festivali i Këngës in December 2005. Due to the non-top 11 result in the previous contest, Albania was drawn to compete in the semi-final of the contest, which took place on 18 May 2006. Performing as number six, the nation was not announced among the top 10 entries of the semi-final and therefore failed to qualify for the grand final, marking Albania's first non-qualification in the contest. Radio Televizioni Shqiptar (; ; formerly TVSH , now mostly referred to as RTSH ) is the national public broadcasting company of Albania. Founded in 1938, it operates several radio and television channels, over a domestic transmitter network as well as satellite. Anjeza Shahini (; born 4 May 1987) is an Albanian singer. She is best known for being the first representative of Albania at the Eurovision Song Contest in 2004, after winning the 42nd edition of Festivali i Këngës. Career 2003–2009 Anjeza Shahini was born on 4 May 1987 in the city of Tirana, then part of the People's Socialist Republic of Albania, present Albania. In 2003, Shahini won the first edition of "Ethet e së premtes mbrëma". In later 2003, along with 29 other singers, she competed in the Festivali I Këngës 42 with the song "Imazhi yt". Broadcast every year since its inauguration in 1962, the festival has determined the country's representative to the Eurovision Song Contest since 2004. Various singing presentations have been used throughout its history, beginning with radio-only performances in the first few years, then expanding to live performances, playback, remakes, and duets featuring other singers.
