Ferat Koçak
Ferat Ali Koçak (born 1979 in West Berlin) is a German politician ( The Left) of Kurdish origins. He was a member of the Abgeordnetenhaus of Berlin from 2021 to 2025, and has been a member of the German Bundestag since 2025. He won the direct mandate in the constituency of Neukölln with 30% of the votes, making him the first Left Party politician to win a constituency outside the former GDR. Early life Koçak was born and grew up in West Berlin as the son of Kurdish-Alevi immigrants. His father, a left-wing trade unionist, escaped from Turkey and sought asylum in Germany in 1980, after the 1980 coup. His mother, a women's rights activist, was the daughter of guest workers who came to Berlin in the 1960s. As his parents worked when he was a kid, he was at times raised by his grandparents or by a friend that helped his mother's family after they arrived in Germany. Asylum Seeker
An asylum seeker is a person who leaves their country of residence, enters another country, and makes in that other country a formal application for the right of asylum according to the Universal Declaration of Human Rights Article 14. A person keeps the status of asylum seeker until the right of asylum application has concluded. The relevant immigration authorities of the country of asylum determine whether the asylum seeker will be granted the right of asylum protection or whether asylum will be refused and the asylum seeker becomes an illegal immigrant who may be asked to leave the country and may even be deported in line with non-refoulement. 2016 Berlin State Election
The 2016 Berlin state election was held on 18 September 2016 to elect the members to the 18th Abgeordnetenhaus of Berlin. Campact
Campact is a German non-governmental organization that aims at creating political pressure in a wide variety of issues through mass digital mobilization. The origins of the organisation and of the first activists are in the anti-nuclear- and environmental movement but soon Campact started to address a variety of topics.
