Felix Township is one of seventeen townships in Grundy County, Illinois, USA. As of the 2010 census, its population was 4,427 and it contained 1,919 housing units. History Felix Township, Grundy County, is named for Felix Grundy, Senator from Tennessee. The township was formed from portions of Wauponsee and Aux Sable townships in November, 1854. Most of old Felix township was partitioned to form Goose Lake Township on September 15, 1897. These early boundary changes occurred mainly due to coal mining activity. Coal City, Illinois
Coal City is a village in Grundy and Will Counties in the U.S. state of Illinois. It is considered a fringe town of the Chicago metropolitan area. The population was 5,587 at the 2010 census. Its school district serves an area with over 11,000 residents. It is served by Interstate 55. The Santa Fe Railway formerly served Coal City at Coal City Station. The village was impacted by two notable tornadoes in recent history, once in 2013 and again 2015. History Coal City was incorporated in 1870, named for coal mines in the vicinity that were built following the 1820 discovery of large coal reserves. Illinois' 11th Congressional District
The 11th congressional district of Illinois is represented by Democrat Bill Foster. Geographic boundaries 2011 redistricting From 1865 to 1867, the district included Bureau, LaSalle, Livingston and Woodford counties. From 1901 until 1947 the 11th congressional district included Kane, DuPage, McHenry and Will Counties. Following the Congressional Apportionment Act of 1947, the district covered a portion of Cook County and the far northwest side of Chicago roughly centered on Norwood Park. Diamond, Illinois
Diamond is a village in Grundy and Will Counties, Illinois. The population was 2,527 at the 2010 census. Terry Kernc is the current mayor of Diamond. History A post office called Diamond was established in 1872, and remained in operation until 1909. Black Diamond had its start as a coal town. The village was named for its location in the center of the "Black Diamond" coal district. On February 16, 1883 the Diamond Mine flooded, killing 72 miners.
