Felipe Santiago Benítez Ávalos
Felipe Santiago Benítez Ávalos (May 1, 1926 – March 19, 2009) was the Paraguayan Catholic Archbishop of the Archdiocese of Asuncion from his appointment on May 20, 1989, until his retirement on June 12, 2002. Benítez Avalos was born in Piribebuy on May 1, 1926, to parents Angel del Rosario Benítez García and Juana Avalos Rodríguez. He remained the Archbishop Emeritus until his death at the Hospital Universitario in Asunción Asunción (, ) is the capital and the largest city of Paraguay. Piribebuy (in Guarani language, Guaraní, ''Pirĩvevúi'') is a List of cities and towns in Paraguay, town and districts of Paraguay, district in the Cordillera Department of Paraguay. It is of spontaneous origin, though some attribute its founding to Martin Ledesma de Valderrama in 1636. Since its founding documents were burned during the Paraguayan War, March 8, 1636, was later appointed as its Day of Establishment.
