Feldmeilen is a village (''Wacht'') within the Municipalities of the canton of Zürich, municipality of Meilen in the Canton of Zürich in Switzerland. Geography Feldmeilen is located in the Meilen (district), district of Meilen in the Pfannenstiel (Zürich), Pfannenstiel region on the northwestern shore of the Zürichsee (Lake Zürich) between Zürich-Seefeld and Rapperswil. It is around 10 km from Zürich. Demographics, education and economics Feldmeilen belongs politically to the municipality of Meilen and is its largest village. Meilen is a Municipalities of Switzerland, municipality in the district of Meilen (district), Meilen in the Cantons of Switzerland, canton of Zürich (canton), Zürich in Switzerland. History Archaeological finds in Meilen date back more than 4,000 years. In January 1854 the level of lake Zürich was particularly low and the locals took the chance to reclaim some land. During this undertaking prehistoric objects from the Pfyn culture, Pfyn, Horgen culture, Horgen and early Bronze Age cultures were unearthed providing clear evidence of early settlement. The locals also unearthed coins from Roman times (1st to 3rd century AD). One of the Roman roads connected ''Turicum'' (Zürich) with places up to ''Chur'' and passed by Meilen. Werner Hug (born 10 September 1952 in Feldmeilen) is a Swiss chess player. Hug was World Junior Chess Champion in 1971 and was Switzerland's leading player of the early 1970's. After Victor Korchnoi settled down in Switzerland, Hug remained number 2 a further decade. In 1968 Hug won the Swiss Junior Championship. He was awarded the title of International Master (IM) in 1971, when he became World Junior Champion in Athens. He won the Swiss Championship in 1975.
