Federal Territory Day () is a Public holidays in Malaysia, territorial public holiday observed annually on 1 February by the federal territories of Kuala Lumpur, Labuan and Putrajaya in Malaysia. The date marks the anniversary of the 1974 Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur Agreement, transfer of Kuala Lumpur from the state of Selangor to the Government of Malaysia, federal government, which occurred on 1 February 1974. History The Federal Territory Day was introduced on 1 February 1974, four days after the 1974 Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur Agreement, Federal Territory Agreement was signed on 28 January 1974 by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Abdul Halim of Kedah, Tuanku Abdul Halim Muadzam Shah of Kedah and the Sultan of Selangor, Salahuddin of Selangor, Almarhum Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah. The Federal Territories (FT), () in Malaysia comprise three territories—Kuala Lumpur, Labuan, and Putrajaya—governed directly by the Government of Malaysia, Federal Government of Malaysia. Kuala Lumpur is the national capital of Malaysia, Putrajaya the administrative capital, and Labuan an offshore international financial centre. Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya are enclave and exclave, enclaves in the state of Selangor. Labuan is an island off the coast of the Sabah state. Administrations The territories fall under the jurisdiction of the Department of Federal Territories. Originally, the Federal Territory (FT) Ministry was established in 1979 and was in charge of planning and administration of Kuala Lumpur and Klang Valley. Al-Wathiqu Billah Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin ibni Almarhum Sultan Mahmud Al-Muktafi Billah Shah (; born 22 January 1962) is the Sultan of Terengganu, reigning since 1998. He previously reigned as the King of Malaysia, from 2006 to 2011. Early life and education Mizan Zainal Abidin was born at the Istana Al-Muktafi in Kuala Terengganu, the eldest son of Sultan Mahmud of Terengganu, Mahmud by his second wife, Fatimah Sharifah Nong Alsagoff binti Abdillah.
