The Federal Correctional Institution, Beaumont (FCI Beaumont) is a United States federal prison for male inmates in unincorporated area, unincorporated Jefferson County, Texas. It is part of the Federal Correctional Complex, Beaumont, Beaumont Federal Correctional Complex (FCC Beaumont) and is operated by the Federal Bureau of Prisons, a division of the United States Department of Justice. It consists of two facilities: * Federal Correctional Institution, Beaumont Low: a low-security facility * Federal Correctional Institution, Beaumont Medium: a medium-security facility FCC Beaumont is located approximately 35 miles from the Gulf of Mexico; 100 miles east of Houston; and 190 miles west of Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Jefferson County, Texas
Jefferson County is a county in the Coastal Plain or Gulf Prairie region of Southeast Texas. The Neches River forms its northeast boundary. As of the 2020 census, the population was 256,526. The county seat is Beaumont. Jefferson County has the highest percentage of African Americans in the state of Texas. The county was established in 1835 as a municipality of Mexico, which had gained independence from Spain. Because the area was lightly settled, the Mexican government allowed European Americans from the United States to settle here if they pledged loyalty to Mexico. Murder Of Darrell Lunsford
On January 23, 1991, in Garrison, Texas, police officer Constable Darrell Lunsford pulled over a suspicious vehicle. Inside the vehicle were three men transporting marijuana from Texas to Illinois. After Lunsford requested to search the trunk of the vehicle, the men exited the car, tackled Lunsford, beat, stabbed, and shot him after a struggle. They then drove off after killing him. Lunsford's dashboard camera in his police cruiser recorded the murder. Footage of the murder is used in law enforcement training. The date of the murder has been described as one of the most infamous dates in the history of Texas law enforcement. Texas's 36th congressional district is a district that was created as a result of the 2010 Census. The first candidates ran in the 2012 House elections for a seat in the 113th United States Congress. Steve Stockman won the general election, and represented the new district. On December 9, 2013, Stockman announced that he would not seek reelection in 2014, and would instead challenge incumbent John Cornyn in the Republican senatorial primary, and was succeeded in the U.S. House by Brian Babin. Stephen Ernest Stockman (born November 14, 1956) is an American politician who is a member of the Republican Party and a convicted felon. He served as the U.S. representative for Texas's 9th congressional district from 1995 to 1997 and for Texas's 36th congressional district from 2013 to 2015. Stockman ran in the Republican primary for the United States Senate in the 2014 election but lost to incumbent Senator John Cornyn.
