Faze FM
Faze FM Radio Ltd was the owner of two dance music radio stations in the North of England. It operated Kiss 102 in Manchester and Kiss 105 in Yorkshire from 1994 to 1997 before being taken over by Chrysalis Group. History Faze FM Radio Ltd was incorporated in 1993 by Eugene Perera's Level Broadcast Ltd. A licence application for the Manchester ILR with shareholders Level Broadcast, Mike Powell's UKRD, Eastern Counties Newspaper Group and 3i was successful and Faze FM Radio Ltd launched as Kiss 102 in November 1994. At launch, Guy Hornsby was managing director, Mike Gray, programme controller, Julian Martin, sales controller and Eugene Perera, marketing director. Tony Blackburn
Anthony Kenneth Blackburn (born 29 January 1943) is an English disc jockey, singer and television presenter, whose career spans over 60 years. Blackburn first achieved fame broadcasting on the pirate stations Radio Caroline and Radio London in the 1960s, before joining the BBC, initially broadcasting on the BBC Light Programme. Blackburn was the first disc jockey to broadcast on BBC Radio 1 at its launch, on 30 September 1967, and has had several stints working for the corporation. Alfasound
Alfasound was a radio jingle production company based in Manchester from late 1970s to mid-1990s founded by Alan Fawkes and ex- Piccadilly Radio DJ Steve England. Alfasound was responsible for some of the most memorable radio jingles in the 80s and 90s, including Piccadilly, the very first jingle set for 96.4 Sound Wave in Swansea. It produced over 10 jingle packages for Radio Trent in Nottingham from 1980 until the station was taken over by GWR Group (later GCap) and re-branded as 96 Trent FM (Now Capital Midlands). Alfasound also served smaller clients, such as short term stations. In April 1994 a modest package was recorded for Victory FM who became the full-time broadcasters to Greater Portsmouth 1999, with more jingles from Manchester. Kiss is a Radio in the United Kingdom, British digital radio station owned and operated by Bauer Media Audio UK as part of the Kiss Network. Kiss broadcasts nationally to the UK via Digital audio broadcasting, DAB digital radio, as well as on Bauer's Rayo platform. Capital is a network of twelve independent contemporary hit radio stations in the United Kingdom, broadcasting a mix of local and networked programming. Capital Yorkshire was a regional radio station owned by Global as part of the Capital network. It broadcast to South Yorkshire & North Derbyshire, West Yorkshire, North Yorkshire, the East Riding of Yorkshire and Northern Lincolnshire. Capital Manchester was a local radio station owned and operated by Global Radio as part of the Capital radio network. The station broadcast from their studios at Global's Manchester HQ in the XYZ Building in Spinningfields, Manchester. In April 2019, the station was merged with 2BR in Lancashire to form Capital Manchester and Lancashire. History The 102 MHz frequency in Manchester has a chequered background. Initially it was occupied by Sunset 102 which included regular shows from house music innovators 808 State and a Saturday evening rave show from Sammy B; both were cited by Dave Haslam in City Life to have been instrumental in reflecting and developing the early rave culture in the city. Galaxy was a radio network owned by Global Radio and broadcast across the British Isles on FM in regional areas of England and Scotland, through the digital platform with Sky and DAB and online respectively.
