''Fantasio'' is an 1872 opéra comique in 3 acts, 4 tableaux, with music by Jacques Offenbach. The French libretto by Paul de Musset was closely based on the 1834 play of the same name by his brother Alfred de Musset. The opera found little success in Offenbach's lifetime, was occasionally revived until the preparation of a critical edition in the 2000s. Background The Musset play was published in the Revue des deux Mondes in 1834 and first performed at the Comédie-Française, Paris in 1866 where it was seen 30 times. Yon, Jean-Claude. Joseph Victor Amédée Capoul (27 February 1839 – 18 February 1924) was a French operatic lyric tenor renowned for his graceful singing style as well as his wonderful acting skills. Career Victor Capoul began his studies in Toulouse. He was admitted to the Conservatoire de Paris in 1859, where, as a pupil of Révial (singing) and Mocker (opéra comique), he won a first prize for the latter in 1861. He was engaged at the Opéra-Comique the same year and made his debut on 26 August as Daniel in Adolphe Adam's ''Le Chalet''. Opéra De Rennes
The Opéra de Rennes (Rennes Opera House) is an Italian-style opera house located in downtown Rennes, France. It was designed by Charles Millardet and built by Pierre Louise. It was inaugurated in 1836. It is located on Place de la Mairie, forming the main eastern side of the square opposite the town hall. Today, the building mainly hosts opera performances and organizes a number of local events, such as the "Opéra en plein air". It has been listed as a historic monument since October 29, 1975. Eduard Hanslick
Eduard Hanslick (11 September 18256 August 1904) was an Austrian music critic, aesthetician and historian. Among the leading critics of his time, he was the chief music critic of the '' Neue Freie Presse'' from 1864 until the end of his life. His best known work, the 1854 treatise ''Vom Musikalisch-Schönen'' (''On the Musically Beautiful''), was a landmark in the aesthetics of music and outlines much of his artistic and philosophical beliefs on music. Hanslick was a conservative critic and championed absolute music over programmatic music for much of his career. ''The Tales of Hoffmann'' (French: ) is an by Jacques Offenbach. The French libretto was written by Jules Barbier, based on three short stories by E. T. A. Hoffmann, who is the protagonist of the story. It was Offenbach's final work; he died in October 1880, four months before the premiere. Composition history and sources Offenbach saw a play, , written by Barbier and Michel Carré and produced at the Odéon-Théâtre de l'Europe, Odéon Theatre in Paris in 1851.
