Fajara
Fajara is a coastal suburb of Bakau in the Gambia. It is home to Isatou Njie-Saidy, a former Vice-President of The Gambia; Patricia Aslup, a former US Ambassador; and was formerly the home town of the late Sir Dawda Kairaba Jawara, a former Prime Minister of The Gambia and the first President of The Gambia. The Medical Research Council is located within a fenced complex on Atlantic Boulevard. There is also a large military camp in the area. Tourism Prior to the arrival of the first tourists in the 1960s the inhabitants' livelihoods revolved largely around fishing. Fajara is, however, becoming an increasingly popular tourist destination with around 20 hotel complexes on the beach and many more inland. Bertil Harding Highway is one of the town's main thoroughfares, named after the pioneering Swedish tourist who arrived in 1965. Bakau
Bakau is a town on the Atlantic Ocean, Atlantic coast of the Gambia, Gambia, west of Gambia's capital city of Banjul. It is known for its botanical gardens, its crocodile pool ''Bakau Kachikally'' and for the beaches at Cape Point (Gambia), Cape Point. Bakau is the first major suburb outside Banjul and the most developed town in the Gambia. Close to Bakau and Banjul is Gambia's largest city, Serekunda. History Legend has it that Bakau grew up around the holy crocodile pool in Kachikally, the central district of Bakau. Bakau itself was a small village at the turn of the 19th century and grew in importance as it became a favourite place for private residences of colonial administrators, especially along the beautiful palm fringed beaches. Mohamadou Sumareh
Mohamadou Sumareh (born 20 September 1994) is a professional footballer who plays as a winger for Malaysia Super League club Johor Darul Ta'zim and the Malaysia national team. Sumareh began his professional career with Terengganu in January 2012 before moving to PDRM F.C. in December 2012. In December 2015, he joined Perlis, where he made 19 league appearances and scored five goals. Following a brief tenure at Perlis, he signed with Pahang in December 2016, where he made 98 league appearances and scored 17 goals over five years. In February 2021, Sumareh joined Johor Darul Ta'zim. He has been recognized once as the Malaysian Midfielder of the Year. Sir Dawda Kairaba Jawara (16 May 1924 – 27 August 2019) was a Gambian politician who served as prime minister from 1962 to 1970, and then as the first President of The Gambia from 1970 to 1994, when he was overthrown by Yahya Jammeh. Jawara was born in Barajally, MacCarthy Island Division, now the Central River Region. He was the son of Mamma Fatty and Almami Jawara. He was educated at the Methodist Boys' School in Banjul (Bathurst) and then attended Achimota College in the Gold Coast (now Ghana). He trained as a veterinary surgeon at the University of Glasgow's School of Veterinary Medicine, then completed his training at the University of Liverpool and the University of Edinburgh. He returned to The Gambia in 1953 and married Augusta Mahoney, beginning work as a veterinary officer. Alieu Fadera (born 3 November 2001) is a Gambian professional footballer who plays as a winger for club Como. Club career Pohronie Fadera's arrival at Slovak Fortuna Liga club FK Pohronie was announced on the club's website on 6 March 2020. His debut was delayed due to the league's postponement, caused by the coronavirus pandemic. He became Pohronie's top scorer in the 2020–21 season, tied with James Weir with 5 goals each. Kanifing
Kanifing is a municipality, Local Government Areas of the Gambia, local government area and Districts of the Gambia, district in the Gambia. It is part of the Greater Banjul Area, to the west of Banjul, and is governed by Kanifing Municipal Council (KMC). The population of Kanifing expanded in the post-colonial era, and it is now one of the country's most-densely populated places and its second most-populated district. Julia Dolly Joiner (born November 11, 1956 Banjul, Gambia) is a Gambian politician. She is Commissioner of Political Affairs for the African Union, based in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. From September 1994 until June 1995, Joiner served as Deputy Permanent Secretary for Gambia's Ministry of Youth, Sport, and Culture for the Gambia, then acted as Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of External Affairs for the following year (June 1995 to November 1996). In December 1998, she was appointed Permanent Secretary to the Office of the President, then Head of the Gambian Civil Service in 1999.
