Faema (cycling Team, 1955–1962)
Faema was a professional cycling team that existed from 1955 to 1962. The team's main sponsor was espresso machine manufacturer Faema. In 1963, the Faema and Flandria teams were merged. In 1964, Faema disappeared as a sponsor in the peloton, but they returned four years later as Faemino–Faema with great success, notably through Eddy Merckx (from 1968 to 1970). Piet Van Est
Piet van Est (11 August 1934 – 17 October 1991) was a Dutch racing cyclist. He rode the Tour de France in 1957–1962 and 1964, finishing within the first 30 places in 1958, 1960 and 1962. In 1961, he won one stage of the Giro d'Italia and finished 31st overall. He also won the Ronde van Nederland in 1958 and two stages of the race in 1963. Salvador Botella Rodrigo (March 27, 1929 – December 18, 2006) was a Spanish road bicycle racing, road bicycle racer, who competed as a professional from 1953 to 1962. He won the ''Volta a Catalunya'' in 1953 and 1959. Team Time Trial
A team time trial (TTT) is a road bicycle race in which teams of cyclists race against the clock (see individual time trial for a more detailed description of ITT events). The winning team in a TTT is determined by the comparing the times of (usually) the fourth-finishing rider in each team (though the relevant finish position can be otherwise specified in advance by the race organisers). This means that each team will try to get their first four (at least) riders across the finish line in a tight group: it is actually a disadvantage for any rider to finish far in advance of the fourth rider, as by staying back a faster rider can help the fourth rider to get a quicker time. Where a TTT is part of a stage race, it is necessary for each rider to be given a finish time that can be cumulated into the general classification timings. Willy Vannitsen
Willy Vannitsen (8 February 1935 – 19 August 2001) was a Belgian professional road bicycle racer. In 1962, Vannitsen won two stages in the 1962 Tour de France. Early life Vannitsen was born on 8 February 1935 in Jeuk, Limburg. In his time, Vannitsen was known as one of the fastest legs in the peloton. In the youth categories he won more than 100 competitions. In 1951, he became Belgian champion with the novices, ahead of Frans Schoubben. As an enthusiast, he won 70 races in two years (1952, 1953). Career Vannitsen made his debut as a professional cyclist with Peugeot in 1954, with four victories. In his entire professional career (1954-1966) he achieved a total of 91 victories. His most honored year was 1958, when he received the victory flowers 14 times. There is one classic victory on his palmares: the Flèche Wallonne in 1961. Germain Derycke (2 November 1929, in Bellegem – 13 January 1978, in Kortrijk) was a Belgian road bicycle racer. Derycke was a classics specialist. In his second year as a professional he came second in Liège–Bastogne–Liège. In 1953 he won Paris–Roubaix. He twice stood on the podium at the world road race championship, second to Fausto Coppi in 1953 and third in 1955 behind Stan Ockers and Jean-Pierre Schmitz. Vicente Iturat Gil (22 August 1928 in Alcalà de Xivert – 18 August 2017 in Vilanova i la Geltrú) was a Spanish professional road cyclist. A sprinter, Iturat won the Points classification in the 1957 Vuelta a España, as well as four stages of the Vuelta a España throughout his career. Volta A La Comunitat Valenciana
The Volta a la Comunitat Valenciana (; or Tour of Valencia) is a road cycling stage race held in the Valencian Community (''Comunitat Valenciana''), Spain. Its position in the cycling calendar means it is often used as preparation for the spring classics or the Grand Tours which take place later in the season. No editions of the race were held between 2008 and 2015 because of funding issues. A first attempt to revive it for the 2010–11 UCI Europe Tour was unsuccessful. During 2015 a second attempt was started by Ángel Casero and his brother Rafael. In September the UCI granted the race a 2.1 status and made way for the return of the race which took place in early February. The 1955 Tour de France was the 42nd edition of the Tour de France, taking place from 7 to 30 July. It consisted of 22 stages over . The race was won by Louison Bobet, the last of his three consecutive wins. Teams As was the custom since the 1930 Tour de France, the 1955 Tour de France was contested by national and regional teams. Eight national teams were sent, with 10 cyclists each from France, Belgium, Spain, Great Britain, the Netherlands, Italy, Switzerland, and a mixed team consisting of Luxembourgian, Austrian, West German and Australian cyclists.
