FK Sirijus Klaipėda was a Lithuanian football (soccer), football club, played in the Žalgiris Stadium (Klaipėda), Žalgiris Stadium in Klaipėda. The club won the A Lyga, Lithuanian Championship in 1990, and twice won the Lithuanian Football Cup: in 1988 and 1990. Founded in 1973 as Syrius Klaipėda, the club was renamed in 1989 to FK Sirijus Klaipėda. In 1996, the club was dissolved. Žalgiris Stadium (Klaipėda)
Žalgiris Stadium () was a multi-purpose stadium in Žirmūnai elderate of Vilnius, Lithuania. The stadium held 15,029 and was the largest in Lithuania until its demolition. It had been built on the desecrated graves of Jews interred in the Old Jewish Cemetery under the stadium. It was named after the Battle of Grunwald and was rebuilt by the German POWs after World War II and finished in 1950 (the stadium existed already before World War II and was used by Pogoń Wilno; in 1936 the Polish athletics championships were held at the stadium). After independence it was used by the Lithuania national football team, but later it lost its meaning as the national stadium and all the international football matches were played either at Darius and Girėnas Stadium in Kaunas or at the renovated LFF Stadium in Vilnius. The A Lyga is the top division of professional football in Lithuania. It is organized by Lithuanian Football Federation (LFF) (). History The first football league was established in Lithuania in 1924, and in various forms existed until 1939. Due to the Polish–Lithuanian War, clubs from Vilnius did not take part in early period of the Lithuanian football competitions. Later during the period of Soviet occupation, a Lithuanian amateur top division existed, while professional players played in USSR football competitions. The Lithuanian Football Federation Cup (), also known as Hegelmann LFF Cup for sponsorship reasons, is a Lithuanian football cup competition contested in a knockout tournament format.
