Futbolo klubas Babrungas, commonly known as Babrungas, is a Lithuanian professional Football (soccer), football club located in Plungė, in Plungė District Municipality, Plungė District. They currently play in the I Lyga, the second tier of Football in Lithuania, Lithuanian football. History The club was created in 1935. During the Soviet era in Lithuania, the club was in the top division for a long time. In 1956, the team from the small town of Plungė became champions of Lithuania. Currently, they play in the I Lyga. Name Babrungas is a river in Plungė District Municipality, Plungė District. First time the club was renamed Babrungas in 1942. Last time was in 1994. Plungė (; Samogitian dialect, Samogitian: ''Plongė''; ) is a city in Lithuania with 17,252 inhabitants. Plunge is the capital of the Plungė District Municipality which has 33,251 inhabitants (2022). Two parts of the city are separated by the Babrungas River and two bridges are built over it. Plungė is known for Plungė Manor and its park, where the Samogitian Art Museum is located. In the Oginskiai manor park stands the Perkūnas Oak, Perkūnas oak natural monument. The Lourdes grotto of Plungė was created in 1905 and attracts visitors. In the center of Plungė stands a monument for the 10th anniversary of regaining the Act of Independence of Lithuania, independence of Lithuania and a sculpture of Saint Florian built by the Lithuanian book smugglers, Lithuanian book carrier Kazys Barzdys.
