Football club Kupiškis, commonly known as Kupiškis was a Lithuanian association football, football team from Kupiškis. History The club was formed in 2018, and made headlines when it was granted exception to participate straight away in the 2nd tier league even after failing the licensing process. The club was struggling, but it made headlines again by trashing FK Koralas Klaipėda 12:0. The game was dubbed a circus, and flagged for match fixing. While investigation was taking place, another game was flagged, against FK Panevėžys. As a result of the investigation, five players were suspended. The team finished the season in 13th position, only above dissolved club FK Koralas Klaipėda. Despite match fixing and relegation-bound position in 2018, the club was again granted exception to play in 2019 LFF I Lyga. The club struggled again, and finished the season 10th. The 2019 LFF I Lyga was the 30th season of the I Lyga, the second tier association football league of Lithuania. The season began on 22 March 2019 and finished in 27 October 2019. Licensing process The Lithuanian Football Federation initially granted applications for 2019 LFF I Lyga licenses: FK Banga Gargždai, FK Nevėžis, FC Pakruojis, FC Džiugas, Žalgiris B, Stumbras B, Riteriai B (Trakai B). After the appeal, on 28 February 2019 Lithuanian Football Federation granted licenses to FK Vilnius ( Baltijos Futbolo Akademija), FK Minija Kretinga, DFK Dainava, Vilniaus Vytis, FK Atmosfera (2012), FC Hegelmann Litauen. The final decision on the number of teams in 2019 LFF I Lyga was made by the Lithuanian Football Federation executive committee meeting on 15 March 2019. I Lyga
The LFF Pirma Lyga, TOPsport Pirma Lyga, or Pirma Lyga, is the second tier of professional Lithuanian football championship. Format Organized by the Lithuanian Football Federation (LFF), I Lyga is contested by 16 teams, with the top team gaining promotion to A Lyga and replaced by the lowest-placed team in top division. The second-placed team qualifies to a promotion play-off with A Lyga's second to last team. Bottom 2 clubs are relegated to the II Lyga, and 3rd last team plays a play-off with the 3rd placed team in II Lyga. The final list of participants often does not correlate to the final results of the previous season, as the participation is finalized through the Lithuanian Football Federation league licensing process. Kupiškis (; Yiddish: קופישוק) is a city in northeastern Lithuania. It is the capital of the Kupiškis district municipality, mainly known for its sculptures and fourth biggest water reservoir in Lithuania. Kupiškis is located on the Lėvuo and Kupa rivers. FK Koralas Klaipėda
Futbolo klubas Koralas, commonly known as Koralas was a Lithuanian football team from the port city of Klaipėda. History The club was established in 2015. In that season they were in LFF III lyga (4th tier), leading for a long time, but finishing in third position. In 2016, they were in LFF II lyga (3rd tier), were runners-up and got promotion to Pirma lyga (2nd tier). In 2017, the team was in Pirma lyga. First half of the season was problematical, but in summer transfer time they got new forces and finished in 6th place. 2018 was problematical. After losing 0–12 to FC Kupiškis they was retired until second half of the season. After summer they won once, but later lost games against "Nevėžis" 0–9 and Panevėžys 0–10. finally, on 19 September 2018 club was dissolved from Pirma lyga competition. Futbolo klubas Panevėžys, commonly known as Panevėžys, is a Lithuanian professional football club from the city of Panevėžys. The team currently plays in A Lyga, the top tier of Lithuanian football. History The city of Panevėžys has a long history of football in Lithuania. Until 2014, the city was represented by 7-time title winners FK Ekranas. However, FK Ekranas was unable to meet the financial criteria to participate in the 2015 season and lost eligibility to participate in the A Lyga. The club was declared bankrupt. Lithuanian Football Federation's II lyga, LFF II lyga is the third tier Lithuanian football championship. As of 2021, the II lyga is a single league, consisting of planned 16 teams. The two top teams gain promotion to the I Lyga. Until the end of 2020 season the league consisted of the Southern Zone and the Western Zone. The Northern Zone and the Eastern Zone existed in some past seasons, but were done away with due to the dwindling number of participating clubs. League Structure Southern Zone The zone has existed since 1999 until 2020. Kaunas County Football Federation was in charge of the competition in this zone. The 2018 LFF I Lyga was the 29th season of the I Lyga, the second tier association football league of Lithuania. The season began on 25 March 2018 and ended on 20 October 2018. Teams Changes from last season A total of fifteen clubs were confirmed for the season, same as previous season, but only fourteen competed as Šilutė withdrew 4 days prior to the league's start after an uncompetitive performance in the 2018 Žemaitijos Taurė. Three of them were reserve teams of the A Lyga sides - one less than maximum allowed for the competitions and last season number. Utenis were relegated from the 2017 A Lyga and replaced last year champions Palanga.
