FC Hoyvík
FC Hoyvík was a Faroese football club, which merged with FF Giza in 2012. The new club was called Giza Hoyvík and later changed its name to FC Hoyvík. This incarnation of FC Hoyvík was previously named ÍF Fram Tórshavn (Tórshavn Forward) and was located in the Hoyvík district, a suburb of the capital Tórshavn, Faroe Islands. History The club was founded on 12 January 1975 as IF Fram Tórshavn, and became the third football club in Tórshavn. HB Tórshavn (1904) and B36 Tórshavn (1936) are the first two. The fourth club in Torshavn came in 1997, Argja Bóltfelag from Argir. As the suburb Argir was incorporated in 1997 in the Municipality of Tórshavn. They were founded 1973. In 1977, Fram Tórshavn played their first season in 1. deild (now named Effodeildin), but only finished seventh in the league and were relegated that season. FC Hoyvík (2019)
FC Hoyvík is a Faroese soccer, football club founded in 2012 after the merger of FF Giza and the original FC Hoyvík. Initially it was known as Giza Hoyvík but was renamed to FC Hoyvík after 2018 season and since 2019 was known as FC Hoyvík. The club is based in Hoyvík, and play their home matches in Hoyvíksvøllur. History In their first season, they played in 2. deild and finished 3rd losing the promotion on goal difference. In 2013 and 2014 they finished 3rd again, finally achieving promotion to the second tier in 2015. They spent three seasons in 1. deild, being relegated back to 2. deild in 2018. After the end of the 2018 season, the club announced it would be renamed to FC Hoyvík. B36 Tórshavn
B36 Tórshavn ( fo, Bóltfelagið 1936 Tórshavn) is a Faroese semi professional football club based in the capital of Tórshavn, playing in the Faroe Islands Premier League, the top tier of Faroese football. B36 Tórshavn has always played its home games in Gundadalur. Originally all Faroese football teams played on gravel grounds, but starting in the late 1980s the grounds were changed into second generation artificial turf. All the artificial pitches have been changed into third generation artificial turf, approved by FIFA. The Faroe Islands Premier League (also known as ''Betri deildin menn'' for sponsorship reasons) is the top level of football in the Faroe Islands. It was founded in 1942 as Meistaradeildin, and it is played in current format since 2005, when Premier League replaced 1. deild as the country's top football division. The league is organised by the Faroe Islands Football Association. It is contested by 10 clubs. At the end of every season, two teams are relegated and two promoted from 1. deild. All teams in the league have semi-professional status. As of April 2022, the Faroe Islands Premier League is ranked 44th out of 55 leagues in the UEFA coefficient. Argir
Argir ( da, Arge) is a village in the Faroe Islands. Argir most likely takes its name from Old Irish ''airge'' meaning ''summer pasture''.; several placenames in Faroe carry the same name with this meaning. Once a village south of Tórshavn, Argir has grown and is now merged with Tórshavn. In 1997 it joined the municipality of Tórshavn. In recent years more houses have been built in Argir and the village, or quarter, has grown upwards into the hills. This area has views over the sea and the capital. There is a boat harbour with boathouses in Argir and a church which was built in 1974. From the 16th century until 1750 there was a leprosy-hospital in Argir. Some paupers lived there too. When the hospital closed the building was turned into a workhouse for the poor. Argir's football team is called AB ( Argja Bóltfelag). Argja Bóltfelag is a Professional Faroese football club based in Argir. They were playing their 2020 third season in the Faroe Islands Premier League, after being promoted from 1. deild after playing there for 1 season in 2017. After the 2020 season the ended as 9th and played a match against B68 Toftir from 1. deild, the winner would play in the Faroe Islands Premier League for the 2021 season. AB Argir lost the match 2-3 and were relegated to 1. deild. They play their home games at the Inni í Vika Stadium in Argir. Tórshavn
Tórshavn (; lit. "Thor's harbour"), usually locally referred to as simply ''Havn'', is the capital and largest city of the Faroe Islands. It is located in the southern part on the east coast of Streymoy. To the northwest of the city lies the mountain Húsareyn, and to the southwest, the Kirkjubøreyn. They are separated by the Sandá River. The city itself has a population of 13,957 (2022), and the greater urban area has a population of 21,078, including the suburbs of Hoyvik and Argir. Havnar Bóltfelag (HB, lit. 'Harbour football club') is a Faroese football club, and is one of the oldest in the Faroe Islands. The club was founded in 1904, and is based in the city of Tórshavn. Home matches are played in Gundadalur and they compete in the Faroe Islands Premier League. History HB Tórshavn was founded in October 1904. The club's first board was elected in a meeting, on 14 November 1904. The board consisted of three people: Mads Andrias Winther, Joan Pauli Joensen and Jakup Mouritsen. Gundadalur is the name of an area in Tórshavn, Faroe Islands. It is home to three different football pitches and other sports facilities. Hoyvík
Hoyvík is a town in the Faroe Islands. It is part of the Tórshavn Municipality, and de facto is merged as a northern suburb of Tórshavn, the Faroese capital. History Hoyvík is believed to be a very old settlement. An early source is the ''Færeyinga saga'', a 13th-century recollection of earlier Viking oral recounts. Before the late 20th century the population was very low. Until the mid 19th century the entire population comprised one farm. A few more houses were built close to the farmland after the Second World War. A real development boom has been in Hoyvík since about the early 1980s. The new houses have been built on land that was formerly considered farmer outfields. The architecture of some of these newer houses include detached and terraced housing.
