F.C. Bnei Ra'anana () is an Israeli Association football, football club based in Ra'anana. The club is currently in Liga Gimel Sharon division. History The club was founded in 2005 and joined Liga Gimel#Liga Gimel Sharon, Liga Gimel Sharon division, where they played nine successive seasons, until the 2013–14 Liga Gimel, 2013–14 season, when the club finished as runners-up and were promoted to Liga Bet, as the best runners-up in the South divisions, after two spots were vacated in that league, following the closures of Ironi Bat Yam F.C., Ironi Bat Yam (played in Liga Alef) and Maccabi Be'er Ya'akov F.C., Maccabi Be'er Ya'akov. The club's 2014–15 Liga Bet, only season in Liga Bet turned up to be the worst ever of a club in that league, after they finished at the bottom of South B division, without points, losing in all their 28 games. Ra'anana ( he, רַעֲנָנָּה, lit. "Fresh") is a city in the southern Sharon Plain of the Central District of Israel. It was founded in 1922 as an American-Jewish settlement, 1 km south of the village of Tabsur, where an important World War I battle had taken place four years previously. Liga Gimel ( he, ליגה ג', lit. ''League C'') is the fifth and bottom division of Israeli Football League, a position it has held since 2009. From Liga Alef and downwards to this, each league is separated by region as well. History Liga Gimel was first established in 1951 as a third division, below Liga Alef and Liga Bet. In 1955, after designating the first tier as Liga Leumit, Liga Gimel was demoted to the fourth tier. Further demotions followed in 1976, after the second tier Liga Artzit to the fifth tier and in 1999, after the establishment of Liga Ha'Al to the sixth tier. At the end of the 2008–09 season, Liga Artzit was scrapped and Liga Gimel was brought up back to the fifth tier. The 2015–16 Liga Gimel season was the 48th season of fifth tier football in Israel, with 108 clubs competing in 8 regional divisions for promotion to Liga Bet. League matches began on 9 October 2015 and ended on 7 May 2016. Hapoel Ironi Safed (Upper Galilee), Maccabi Ironi Yafa (Lower Galilee), F.C. al-Nahda Nazareth (Jezreel), F.C. Baqa (Samaria), Hapoel Kafr Qasim Shouaa (Sharon), F.C. Roei Heshbon Tel Aviv (Tel Aviv), F.C. Beitar Yavne (Central) and Hapoel Merhavim (South) all won their respective divisions and were promoted to Liga Bet. Liga Bet ( he, ליגה ב', lit. ''League B'') is the fourth tier of the Israeli football league system. It is divided into four regional divisions. History League football started in Israel in 1949–50, a year after the Israeli Declaration of Independence. However, the financial and security crises gripping the young nation caused the 1950–51 season to be abandoned before it had started. When football resumed in 1951–52, the new top division went by the name of Liga Alef with Liga Bet as the second division. The 1952–53 season was also not played, and Liga Bet resumed in 1953–54. In the 1955–56 season, Liga Leumit came into existence as the new top division, with Liga Alef becoming the second division and Liga Bet demoted to the third division. The 2014–15 Liga Bet season saw Hapoel Kafr Kanna (champions of the North A division), Hapoel Baqa al-Gharbiyye (champions of the North B division), Hapoel Bik'at HaYarden (champions of the South A division) and Bnei Eilat (champions of the South B division) win the title and promotion to Liga Alef. The clubs ranked 2nd to 5th in each division entered a promotion play-off, at the end of which, Hapoel Iksal (from the North section) and Hapoel Kiryat Ono (from the South section) met the teams ranked 14th in Liga Alef. Hapoel Iksal won their tie and was promoted to Liga Alef as well, while Hapoel Kiryat Ono lost and remained in Liga Bet. At the bottom, Hapoel Ironi Bnei I'billin (from North A division) and Otzma F.C. Holon (from South A division) were automatically relegated to Liga Gimel. Hapoel ( he, הפועל, lit. ''the worker'') is an Israeli Jewish sports association established in 1926 by the Histadrut Labor Federation. History During the British Mandate of Palestine period Hapoel had a bitter rivalry with Maccabi and organized its own competitions, with the exception of football, the only sport in which all the organizations played each other. At the time, Hapoel took no part in the ''Eretz Israel Olympic Committee'', which was controlled by Maccabi, and instead sought for international ties with similar workers sports organizations of socialist parties. Therefore, Hapoel became a member of SASI in 1927 and later was a member of CSIT.
