F.C. Manu Laeva
FC Manu Laeva is a Tuvaluan football club from Nukulaelae that currently plays in the Tuvalu A-Division. The team's home ground is the Tuvalu Sports Ground, the only football field in Tuvalu. Manu Laeva plays on an amateur level, as do all the teams in Tuvalu. They also have a reserve squad and a women's team. History Manu Laeva was formed in 1980. The first name was Tavakisa for A team and the B Team Called Young Kisa. In 1998 Tavakisa and Young kisa were renamed Manu Laeva A and Manu Laeva B. In 1998 and 2001, they won their first prizes. Manu Laeva won 6-0 against FC Nanumaga in 1998 Tuvalu KnockOut Cup. Of all teams they won the Tuvalu Games the most. They won it in 2008, 2009, and 2011 and 2014. Tuvalu Sports Ground
Tuvalu Sports Ground is a multi-use stadium in Funafuti, Tuvalu. It is currently used mostly for football and rugby matches. The stadium holds 1,500 people. It is the only stadium in Tuvalu so all football tournaments are played at the stadium: A-Division; Independence Cup; NBT Cup; Tuvalu Games and also the Christmas Cup. The Tuvalu national football team draws from players in the Tuvalu A-Division; with the national team training at the Tuvalu Sports Ground. The first large scale system for renewable energy in Tuvalu is a 40 kW solar panel installation on the roof of the Tuvalu Sports Ground stands. This grid-connected 40 kW solar system was established in 2008 by the E8 and Japan Government through Kansai Electric Company (Japan) and contributes 1% of electricity production on Funafuti. Christmas Cup
Association football is the most popular sport in Tuvalu. Football in Tuvalu is governed by the Tuvalu National Football Association (TNFA). The TNFA became an associate member association of the Oceania Football Confederation (OFC) on 15 November 2006 with a further reinstatement on 16 March 2020. The TNFA has been wanting to become a full member of the OFC and a member of FIFA since 1987. History of the Sport The earliest records of football in Tuvalu date back to the 1979 South Pacific Games where Tuvalu competed. They defeated Tonga, but lost their other two matches. This qualified them for a play-off against Kiribati, which they would win on penalties before losing to Guam national football team. A league was active by 1980, with Nauti FC being founded in that year, and it would continue until 1991 when renovations prevented access to the airstrip for training or the Tuvalu Sports Ground for matches.
