Erling Moi
Erling August Moi (30 June 1918 – 8 September 1944) was a Norwegian resistance member of World War II. He was born and raised in Kvinesdal, and had attended middle school and commercial school. During the Norwegian Campaign in 1940, he fought for Norway in Voss and Valdres. During the subsequent occupation of Norway by Nazi Germany, he joined Milorg in 1941. He worked as a courier between Southern Norway and Oslo, and also operated an illegal communication post in Kvinesdal. He was arrested on 30 March 1944, when the Gestapo raided the home of fellow resistance member Sverre Johansen. Moi coincidentally slept over in Johansen's house, but together with Sverre's brother Toralf he was arrested by chance. Norwegian Resistance Movement
The Norwegian resistance (Norwegian: ''Motstandsbevegelsen'') to the occupation of Norway by Nazi Germany began after Operation Weserübung in 1940 and ended in 1945. Arkivet (Kristiansand)
Arkivet (meaning ''the Archive'') is the established name of Vesterveien 4 in Kristiansand, Norway. The building was constructed in 1935 for the Regional State Archives in Kristiansand, Archival Services in Kristiansand, and in the periods 1935–1940 and 1945–1997 used by this institution. Nevertheless, the building is known as the headquarters of the Gestapo in Sørlandet, southern Norway in the period 1942–1945. The building is owned and operated by the foundation ''Stiftelsen Arkivet''. Arikivet is located in the residential area of Bellevue overlooking the western harbor of Kristiansand. The building in the Functionalism (architecture), functionalist style was completed in 1935, and was 8 March of that year officially adopted by the local department of the National Archives. SS Westfalen (1905)
SS ''Westfalen'' was a German ship launched on 14 November 1905 at Joh. C. Tecklenborg in Geestemünde (today Bremerhaven). In the early 1930s ''Westfalen'' was converted into a seaplane tender to serve as a weather reporting and refueling station for Dornier Wal flying boats of Deutsche Luft Hansa carrying mail across the Atlantic between Europe and South America. The conversion of the ''Westfalen'' consisted of a large retractable stern mounted canvas drag apron for the flying boat to taxi on (i.e. for use in heavy seas and so the ship did not have to come to dead stop), cranes to lift the flying boats out of the water to be refueled and serviced, and a large compressed air catapult for launching the aircraft. When in operation, ''Westfalen'' cruised 900 miles in the middle of the South Atlantic between Bathhurst, Gambia (now Banjul) and Pernambuco, Brazil.
