The Miss New Jersey competition is an annual pageant held to select the representative for the state of New Jersey in the Miss America pageant. Two Miss New Jersey winners have gone on to hold the title of Miss America: Bette Cooper who won in 1937 and Suzette Charles who did not win, but took over the title for the last 7 weeks of Vanessa Williams's reign in 1984. They also have one unofficial Miss America: Dorothy Hann (1932). In the fall of 2018, the Miss America Organization terminated the Miss New Jersey organization's license as well as licenses from Florida, Georgia, New York, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, and West Virginia. On December 26, 2018; MAO reinstated the license for the Miss New Jersey organization for one year, contingent on leadership changes and the recruitment of new sponsors and board members. Miss USA
Miss USA is an American beauty pageant that has been held annually since 1952 to select the entrant from United States in the Miss Universe pageant. The Miss Universe Organization operated both pageants, as well as Miss Teen USA, until 2020, when the organization announced it was licensing operation of the Miss USA and Miss Teen USA pageants to Crystle Stewart, Miss USA for 2008. The pageant was owned by Donald Trump from 1996 to 2015 and was previously broadcast on NBC. In September 2015, WME/IMG purchased the pageant from Trump. Mohegan Sun is an American casino, owned and operated by the Mohegan Tribe on of their reservation, along the banks of the Thames River in Uncasville, Connecticut. It has of gambling space. It is in the foothills of southeastern Connecticut, where 60 percent of the state's tourism is concentrated. Miss America 2022
The Miss America 2022 competition was held on December 17, 2021. This was the 94th Miss America competition and was held at the Mohegan Sun in Uncasville, Connecticut, as the Miss America Organization celebrated its 100th anniversary. It was the first Miss America since 1954 that was not televised, but it was streamed on Peacock. There were several technical glitches within the stream throughout the show, causing many viewers to complain on social media about the production value. Miss America 2020, Camille Schrier of Virginia crowned her successor, Emma Broyles of Alaska, at the end of the event. The Miss New Jersey's Outstanding Teen competition is the pageant that selects the representative for the U.S. state of New Jersey in the Miss America's Outstanding Teen pageant. Maria Lynn Sooy of Ocean View was crowned Miss New Jersey's Outstanding Teen on June 24, 2022 at the Resorts Casino Hotel in Atlantic City, New Jersey. Ashleigh Udalovas
Ashleigh Udalovas (born January 18, 1988) held the title of Miss New Jersey 2010 and competed in the Miss America 2011 Pageant on January 15, 2011, in Las Vegas, Nevada. She was the 1st runner-up at the Miss New Jersey 2009 pageant and competed in 2010 as Miss All-State. She also won the Interview award and Academic award at the 2010 pageant. Amy Polumbo (born November 20, 1984) was crowned Miss New Jersey 2007. She is from Howell Township, New Jersey, where she graduated from Howell High School in 2003. She graduated from Wagner College, where she studied musical theatre and psychology. She left college for some time to star as Ariel in The Voyage of The Little Mermaid in Hollywood Studios at Walt Disney World. The most frequently presented Miss America awards are for preliminary talent and swimsuit. The talent award was introduced in 1936, and the swimsuit award in 1940. In the 2000s, preliminary awards for evening gown and interview were briefly introduced but were discontinued after two years as it was felt that they made the semi-finalists too predictable. Miss America 1937, the 11th Miss America pageant, was held at the Steel Pier in Atlantic City, New Jersey on Saturday, September 11, 1937. Shortly after being presented as Miss America, the newly crowned 17-year-old winner, Bette Cooper, left Atlantic City and returned home. Once there, she missed scheduled appointments on her first day as Miss America, as well as a theater appearance and a trip to Hollywood. Her father cited illness as the reason.
